"Cotton Fields" may be the album or single version - it's up to you. "Their Hearts Were Full of Spring" is the Live in London version which was first released in 1970.
"Our Prayer" and "Cabin Essence" are being saved for a future poll.
Voting is open!

What jumps out immediately to me is how few songs there are compared to other years we've voted on previously. Granted, some polls were one year, others were bigger ranges, but even so: two years, not that many songs.

Yeah, I intended to include Surf's Up in this poll but then the '72-74 poll would have been even shorter. This way there's a little better balance. I hadn't planned everything out from the start - when I did the '80s poll - so we're going to have another short(er) one for '78-79.

I didn't mean it so much as criticism of you running the poll as just a note on the productivity/output. Of course, archival releases show a lot more work from this era, but just in terms of released product, it's light.

Regarding the archival material, I considered including the Feel Flows and Sail On, Sailor tracks but I'm going to do a separate poll for the main bonus tracks that were featured on those sets. So far, I've only included tracks that were released at the time, so I decided to stay the course. Once we get through the eras, we can visit other tracks that eventually trickled out.

It's interesting, too, because they owed Capitol another album...and had recorded a bunch of other tracks...but still more wasn't released!

1. Do It Again - It was said that Brian could sit down anytime and write a "fun" hit record if he wanted to. And he did with this one!
1A. This Whole World - One of the best Beach Boys songs - or any song for that matter - that so few people ever heard.
3. Forever - Dennis was very good on 20/20. He upped his game on Sunflower. If this isn't an all-timer it's close. 4. All I Wanna Do - A late bloomer, again because Sunflower was obscure for so long. I wish Brian didn't use the distortion on this record, though.
5. Add Some Music To Your Day - Good song, a lot of voices, I dig the message. I think the ending tag/fade is underrated.
6. I Can Hear Music - Carl, where did this come from? Who knew? He out-Brianed Brian, and with Spector to boot.
7. Break Away - After all the turmoil, I will never understand how Brian could sit down with Murry and...do anything.
8. Slip On Through - Dennis was now writing great rock & roll/pop songs, too.
9. Time To Get Alone - I like this one but not as much as others seem to. It's nice, though. Very nice.
10. The Nearest Faraway Place - Good melody, good arrangement, good song! I wish Bruce would talk more about it in various interviews.

"I Can Hear Music" (one of Carl's finest vocal moments), "The Nearest Faraway Place", "Cottonfields" (the 45), "Break Away", the joyous "Slip On Through", "This Whole World" (a "sleeper" in my book), "Got To Know The Woman", "Deirdre", "All I Wanna Do" (the song that did it for me in 2002) and "Cool, Cool Water".

There may be fewer songs on this list, but I pretty much at least like almost every song on this list. I think this was harder for me than 1964.
In order of how much I love it:
1. “This Whole World” 2. “Break Away” 3. “Forever” 4. “All I Wanna Do” 5. “Time To Get Alone” 6. “I Can Hear Music” 7. “The Nearest Faraway Place” 8. “I Went To Sleep” 9. “Celebrate The News” 10. “Cool, Cool Water”
"This Whole World" is one of my favorite songs by anyone ever. My second favorite Beach Boys song after "God Only Knows". The song just makes me happy. I love the lyrics and the vocals. Every section has something new and different happening. It never looses my interest. I even love the alternate version on Feel Flows. It's the perfect pop song.
"Break Away" should have been a huge hit. It's a shame that it wasn't on an album. Another song that makes me feel good. I can't believe Murry had a part in it. That kind of makes it more fun though.
"Forever" is another song that should have been a giant hit. The emotion in Dennis' voice coupled with the lyrics is sublime.
"Time To Get Alone", is my favorite Beach Boys waltz song. Again - those vocals enthrall me. So glad the Beach Boys kept this one - though I do adore Redwood's version.
"I Can Hear Music" - Carl's voice soars in this one. So angelic and pure. Makes my toes tingle.
"The Nearest Faraway Place" is a gorgeous instrumental. I wish Bruce would play it in concert.
"I Went To Sleep" - Another Waltz. This would have been perfect on Friends. I think I should make my own mix and add it to the rest of that album.
"Celebrate The News" - I love the live performances of this song. The harmonies are so pretty. It has Dennis! It rocks in the middle. Doesn't really sound like a Beach Boys song. A lot of Dennis' stuff doesn't.
"Cool, Cool Water" - I consider this a classic Beach Boys staple, so I couldn't leave it off.

One thing that definitely jumps out at me is the number of cool songs recorded, but not released, in 1969-70. A few would make my list. However, my list is currently (in order of appearance):
- Do It Again - I Can Hear Music - Cottonfields - I Went to Sleep - Time to Get Alone - Break Away - This Whole World - Deirdre - All I Wanna Do - Our Sweet Love

My question would be more, "was the inclusion of The Nearest Faraway Place an oversight?"

It's OK, but musically repetitive. And Brian's caterwauling at the end does it no favors.
