Top 10 Songs of 1969-1970I Can Hear Music (9 votes) This Whole World (9 votes) All I Wanna Do (8 votes) Do It Again (7 votes) Time To Get Alone (7 votes) Break Away (7 votes) Slip On Through (6 votes) Forever (6 votes) Cotton Fields (5 votes) It's About Time (4 votes) Very surprised "It's About Time" made the cut. Slightly surprised "Cotton Fields" did, too. And, I still think "Do It Again" is an all-timer!

Some of the songs that almost cracked my ten were Bluebirds, Never Learn Not to Love, and Our Sweet Love.

Some of the songs that almost cracked my ten were Bluebirds, Never Learn Not to Love, and Our Sweet Love. Again, the diversity in the responses here suprises me ,and it shouldn't. Bluebirds and NLNTL are among my least favorite BB tunes, but hey, whatever floats your boat. Our Sweet Love, and all of side two of Sunflower, is something I never tire of.

Judging by the votes, I don't think you're alone on Bluebirds and NLNTL.

B.E. , any chance you can update the totals to incorporate kds 's picks? Updated. "Break Away" and "Forever" moved ahead of "Time To Get Alone" and "Slip On Through".

Call me fussy, judgemental, whatever, I just can't get past the idea that Manson wrote the song. Maybe Charlie had other great songs, too, maybe Dennis should have produced an album of the SOB. I just wish the song would Cease to Exist. And yes, I do still listen to Phil Spector productions and Bill Cosby albums. I guess I have a double standard.

I agree, one of Dennis's best leads IMO, and I enjoy the arrangement too. Pity about the backstory, but it doesn't really detract from my enjoyment of the song.

Yeah, I know how it doesn't, or shouldn't matter, who or what or how a song comes into existence. Just judge the song on, well, the merits of the song. And, where do you draw the line? How many dozens of artists/musicians would line up and be found guilty of...character flaws. A lot!
So, yeah, thoughts of Manson creep in occasionally when I'm listening to "Never Learn Not To Love". But I really like the song. Underrated song, performance, and production. For me, it's easily one of Dennis's best Beach Boys' songs. I think it would've made a great album opener on 20/20.

I keep thinking I am really missing something that other people are hearing; a lot of the Dennis songs that people love just leave me cold. Celebrate the News is one of them. Be With Me is another. But I love all of his songs on Sunflower, and Little Bird, Be Still and All I Want to Do are all songs I enjoy.
