Shoutbox

jk: Ironically I often find that the more work I have, the more I post! But this is exceptional. I'll do my best (on both counts). ;) Jan 23, 2020 13:28:26 GMT
jk: Enjoying a short break (more work on its way)... Jan 24, 2020 12:30:43 GMT
Kapitan: Sorry for going overboard (and a bit technical) on my post in the "genius" thread. Jan 24, 2020 17:37:22 GMT
Kapitan: Well not REALLY sorry. But I think I did probably overdo it. Jan 24, 2020 17:37:40 GMT
kds: Well, when we're discussing a fairly dormant band (creatively), you gotta post about something. Jan 24, 2020 20:03:21 GMT
Kapitan: Up next, song-by-song harmonic analysis... :D Jan 24, 2020 20:07:57 GMT
B.E.: I’d buy that book! Jan 24, 2020 20:20:13 GMT
kds: Followed by Stars and Stripes - What went wrong? What went right? Why no Vol 2? Did Mike really say that about Lorrie Morgan's feet? Jan 24, 2020 20:25:13 GMT
Kapitan: B.E., that book does kind-of exist in Philip Lambert's "Inside the Music of Brian Wilson." It doesn't consistently dig into the chord progressions and such, but it does sometimes. Definitely more technical than narrative. Jan 24, 2020 22:34:14 GMT
B.E.: Yeah, I tracked that down a few years ago. Its value is probably enhanced for being virtually one-of-a-kind in Beach Boys land. My copy was discarded from a Washington state library and somehow found its way to me. Jan 24, 2020 22:45:06 GMT
jk: That's a great book! On that subject, the famous aeijtzsche has her own ideas for a book. Rather than make a link to Smiley for your sakes, I'll paste her post in a relevant corner of this forum. ;) Jan 24, 2020 23:08:42 GMT
Kapitan: Re Lambert's book, I might be one of the few fans on earth who really wished it were more technical, musically speaking. I think the music deserves a close look in that context. Jan 24, 2020 23:36:18 GMT
jk: I could handle a more technical approach too but I don't think it would be doing most BB fans much of a favour. Maybe aeijtzsche's way is better. You can watch her videos as superficially or as deeply as you want whereas a book doesn't give you that option Jan 28, 2020 0:19:41 GMT
jk: Crazily busy with work right now. I'll have more time to post next week. ;) Jan 28, 2020 0:21:16 GMT
B.E.: I listened to the album, Let It Be, last night for the first time in quite a while, and although I've probably listened to it 100 times in my life it still gave me great joy. Just as much as it ever had. I love that about music! Jan 28, 2020 16:35:31 GMT
kds: I think Let It Be tends to be very underrated in terms of Beatles albums. Jan 28, 2020 16:58:11 GMT
kds: I posted The Wall in the Floyd thread, wrapping up their 1970s albums. Jan 28, 2020 16:58:25 GMT
Sheriff John Stone: Agree B.E. and kds. Let It Be is an underrated, IMO great album. Jan 28, 2020 19:09:23 GMT
kds: I guess some fans just need an album to crap on, and they chose the one that's got Maggie Mae and Dig It. Jan 28, 2020 19:46:37 GMT
Kapitan: Let It Be is lower on my Beatles list, but that's a little like saying it's one of Michael Jordan's more mediocre seasons. And I LOVE Maggie Mae. Jan 29, 2020 0:32:15 GMT
