Review from a Facebook group I'm in:
SPOILER ALERT!!! I'm going to post the setlist from Brian's show tonight for those who are interested... I'm making a long intro here for those who choose to scroll past this post and be surprised should they attend an upcoming show So... it's coming up soon... You've been warned.... HOT night in Phoenix for the show..105 degrees at around 6:30pm I adore Brian and am grateful to have been able to go, so I'll leave it at that. There may have been some technical (monitor) issues going on. The band was tight and had a few opening night hiccups, but were great overall. With all respect in the world, if you want to ever see Brian in concert, you should get tickets to this because I fear it might be his last tour (and I've seen him probably 30 times over the years). A cool closing of the loop for me is that this is the venue where I saw him for the first time solo when he opened for Paul Simon on his birthday. OK. here's the setlist: No Blondie for the first several songs... California Girls Do It Again I Get Around Shut Down Little Deuce Coupe Surfer Girl Salt Lake City!!! (May be the first time I've ever seen that performed live by him solo or the BBs.) Surfin' Safari Don't Worry Baby (Great Matt J lead) Sloop John B Wouldn't It Be Nice God Only Knows Darlin' - very cool, James Pankow and Lee Loughnane and Chicago's new sax guy came out to play on it. Great lead from Darian. Paul gushed all over this after the song, getting to play with the Chicago Horns Add Some Music . Al took most of the lead I Can Hear Music ---Blondie is introduced--- Wild Honey - Blondie lead and some serious guitar shredding Long Promised Road!!! Blondie lead Sail on, Sailor - Blondie great on this one Band intros (Randall was there) Good Vibes Help Me, Rhonda Surfin' USA Love and Mercy ---no encore--- During Chicago's set, Al and the boys (minus Brian and Blondie) came out to sing on Wishing You Were Here..after Bobby Lamm talked about the certain BBs singing on the original.. a really nice touch and the song was great. Here's Chicago's set, if anyone cares: Introduction Dialog Pt 1 & 2 Old Days Wishing You were Here Call On Me I've Been Searchin' So Long An Instrumental that I think was Mononucleosis, but it's been a while since I've listened to that song. If This Is Goodbye - new song If You Leave Me Now The Whole Make Me Smile Suite with Color My World, More Than Ever, etc Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is? You're The Inspiration Beginnings I'm a Man - with looooong drum solo Just You and me Hard To Say I'm Sorry Saturday In the Park Feelin' Stronger Every day encore Free and... I presume 25 or 6 to 4,,,but I was already in the car to beat the traffic Thanks for reading

First, how does one leave before 25 or 6 to 4? Maybe the poster has seen Chicago before.
No real surprises in Brian's set, that's basically the same group of songs he's been doing in his Greatest Hits shows the last several years, except a little shorter. Salt Lake City has even been performed fairly regularly since 2016 or so.

Cool to see some interaction between bands. I (optimistically) assumed that would happen, as I'm sure many did. But one never knows until it's been done, and so, now we know.

So, no joint set, other than WWYWH...
I heard that Rob Bonfiglio tested positive for Covid, good to know Randell was available to step in. Wishing Rob a swift recovery.

Matt Jardine's wife posted some videos on her Instagram page and apparently Brian is no longer singing God Only Knows. She posted some other clips and Brian is nowhere to be heard and is staring straight ahead in every clip aside from one where he looks at Matt for a couple seconds. I'll link the clips, but not sure if you need an Instagram account to view stories: www.instagram.com/stories/hey.its.sooz/2856275447041567486/Obviously, it's not too out of the ordinary these days for Brian to be silent on songs where he doesn't have a lead, but now not even singing God Only Knows?

Hopefully she'll put them up on FB or her blog soon. No Instagram for our household.

That's interesting. It reminds me of one of the times I saw an Al Storytellers show. Matt sang GOK, and Jeff Ross, who was in charge of keyboards, harmonies, and keeping Al's stories somewhat focused, said "There is nobody who does a better live vocal on God Only Knows than Matt Jardine." Maybe it's for the best, I remember seeing some clips from 2017 and 2018 of Brian really struggling with GOK.

Is the "Randell" in question Randell Kirsch, of the Beach Boys touring band? I assume so, but just wanting to be sure I'm not ignorant of some other relevant Randell in the BBs universe.
Assuming it is, it's actually somewhat surprising the schedules allowed that, considering the time of year it is and the Beach Boys' activity.

Mike's Beach Boys have been on a short break since their Grand Ole Opry appearance, until they go to Europe to start a tour that starts June 18 in Norway. Speaking of which, I was incorrect when I said there are no quasi local BB related shows for me this summer. It looks like Mike and the Boys are making their annual late summer appearance at Wolf Trap in Vienna, VA (that's about a 90 minute drive for me).

Based on that linke from The Cincinnati Kid, it was actually Doug Randell, not Randell Kirsch, who was the "Randell" in question. Thanks for that link to the review. Sounds like things were typical for a show in which Brian isn't really "on." Great band, some flubs and a lot of stoic inaction from Brian.
The band is listed as Wilson, both Jardines, Chaplin, Sahanaja, Gregory, Mertens, Lizik, D'Amico, Gary Griffen, Jim Laspesa, and Doug Randell.

I just watched a video of Blondie doing "Sail On Sailor" from the Phoenix show. Randell Kirsch is standing right behind him.
So, it's not Doug Randell, unless that's someone with Chicago. The reporter got it wrong.

I just checked Chicago's website, and they don't list a Doug Randell. (Or, for that matter, a Doug or a Randall/Randell.) So it must have just been some error.
It did occur to me that Bret Simons, who was on some of those late 00s Brian Wilson albums, also had been with Chicago. That might have been a neat little reunion. However, he is not with them anymore, according to their website.

The writer says Wilson "didn’t sing on every song and mostly on the verses, but when he did sing it was far better than one would expect. While most musicians his age have lost a step vocally, he still sounds like the Brian Wilson you remember, which is no small feat." So it seems either Brian had a really good night, or the reviewer didn't notice when somebody else was handling parts he thought were Brian's. (Sometimes Brian still sounds really good, but "he still sounds like the Brian Wilson you remember?" He hasn't "lost a step vocally?" That seems highly debatable.)
Regardless, great to see another positive review.
