I thought Matt sang that when I saw Brian in Jan 2020, but I could be misremembering. I was surprised that Darian sang it instead of Matt, but I looked through some of the other reviews from this Summer and they all mention Darian singing it. He does do a great job with it. I'll have to see if I can find videos from the 2020 Winter Tour. It's very possible Darian sang it.

Darian has been singing "Darlin'" for well over a decade.

The song in question was "I Can Hear Music."

Not touring but in the studio...What is Brian doing there?

Honestly I'm delighted! Probably a one-off song for some special project: a tribute or greatest hits album plus one new original, a soundtrack, a collaboration, that kind of thing. But whatever it is, if he wants to do it, great. (Personally I hope it's a new song, not a cover or self-cover.)
No, I don't expect whatever it is to be earth-shattering, but I'm still extremely interested. And if he's into it, I think that's just great for his health.

As long as it's not another version of Little Saint Nick, I'd be fine with that.

It's time for another cd like Songs From Here and Back. Dust off some old live Beach Boys recordings, and include one new track from each of the BB camps. One new recording of a Landy era song by Brian. One rewrite of an old song by Al. One new song to be recycled later on by Mike for a solo album. Heck, include David and Blondie in it, too. I'd love to hear Deborah Harry sing Summer of Love.

A few new tidbits from Al Jardine about the potential future of Brian on the road, quoted from a new interview Sheriff John Stone posted in the new interviews/articles thread.
Brian canceled the balance of his 2022 dates during the summer. Do you think we’ll see him back on the road ever?
Jardine: I’ve got a feeling, yes. I believe there are some offers for next summer coming. I’m just speculating -- a final tour this year, maybe. Why even say that, though? As long as we’re healthy...Brian doesn’t give you much as an entertainer, because he’s really introverted and he’s a really a studio genius, a songwriting genius, arranger. He does love to be out there, though, and when he’s on, man, watch out.
The Brian Wilson band does that music so well, do you think it could go on even when he’s not performing anymore?
Jardine: I would think so. I mean, look at Stravinsky and all those characters, the classical composers; their music is played by different bands for ages. We could have many iterations of Brian’s music, and I’d be happy to go out and represent it, too, if I had to -- if I was able to, I should say. I’m trying to keep it alive, you know. It’s our life. It’s great to be able to continue to express the music, either with Brian or on my own or however we do it. As long as they’ll have us, we’ll be there.

I don't think Brian will return to the stage unless it's a one-off, and an important one at that.
And, I could see Al and maybe even Blondie fronting some kind of Brian Wilson tribute band. At least it will add some authenticity to some songs, and at the very least it'll sell a few more tickets.

I wonder whether "the Brian Wilson Band" would consider rolling along with Al as the new frontman ... especially since he's already fronting, more or less. It could be a merger of Al's Family & Friends and the BW Band. I don't know whether the money would be enough to sustain a bigger band like Brian's if he's not on the marquee, though.
I am not as concerned about the "authenticity" stuff, myself. Honestly I'd rather hear Darian sing a lot of the songs than Blondie, and would be fine leaving the Wilson daughters behind, and don't care whether it's Bobby Figueroa versus Mike D'Amico or Ed Carter versus Probyn Gregory, or whatever. It's funny, I've long liked the youthful voices of Brian's band, but those guys are all getting up there in years, too.

You could survey old fans/new fans, casual fans/die-hards, Brianistas/Mike Love advocates - and you'd probably get all kinds of opinions or wishes. For me personally, I think the only way I would be interested or even consider buying tickets would be the composition of the band. The more "close members to Brian Wilson/The Beach Boys" the better. I would prefer Al and Blondie. Give me all of the Wilson/Love relatives who have musical talent. I think, again for me personally, it adds another element to the performance. It just makes it more personal than, well, impersonal. Back in 2012, when they formed that short-lived group - what was it called, California Saga or something? - comprised of several Wilson/Love relatives, I thought they were onto something. That's what I prefer they do to carry on the Beach Boys' legacy in concert. I thought it was intriguing on a lot of levels. It would've been interesting to say the least. I wonder what happened with that group? It didn't last very long, did it.

Yeah, I do get what you're saying. I am also guessing a lot of fans would share that opinion.
I think California Saga was more a one-off (though they used the name for that pandemic album, too). That was a lot of people who all probably have other things going on to coordinate a group, especially while 2-3 versions of "the real thing" (relatively speaking) were/are still active. They also were pretty much just singers, right? (Note: checking youtube quickly, it seems to be the singers plus Rob B on guitar and Billy H on keyboards.) So they'd have to figure out instruments. And if it were the FULL group, that's like 8 singers plus a band? That's expensive. Christian and Matt are both, of course, otherwise employed right now, too (as is Rob), with the real bands. But if the point of this is for after the principals are gone, then that frees that up.
Anyway, my taste would be to make sure any group had Darian, Probyn, and Ike, anyway. After that, I'm open to a lot of configurations. (I'd actually also really prefer that Scott be a part of it, but that seems unlikely.)

At this point, I think I would only go see a Brianless Brian Wilson Band (or even with Brian for that matter) if they strayed away from the Greatest Hits sets they've been doing for the better part of the last four or five years.
I've seen C50, Brian Wilson, Mike's Beach Boys, and Al's Storytellers shows over the last decade, and all the shows were great, but I think I'd just want something a little different if I were going to pay the increasingly high prices for tickets these days.
Of course, if they carried on with a hit filled setlist, I would fully understand, but I'd probably just stay home.
