Thanks. I had Idaho on the mind from the festival in Idaho I posted about in the Beach Boys tour thread, apparently. I humbly beg the forgiveness of the board on this error, and may God have mercy on my immortal soul.

But, for now, go listen to Stars and Stripes, followed by LOCASH's "Beach Boys" five times each, and think about what you've done.

This isn't related to Brian's 2022 Tour, but it's new. I always had a soft spot for "A Friend Like You", well, maybe a little one:

That was the first time I'd listened to A Friend Like You in some time.
Either this remix is far superior to the album version, or I'm softening on the song a bit.
On the tour front, I see still no message from Brian's PR Team about the cancellation of his remaining tour dates. That's pretty disappointing, even for them. I'm not saying that his team needs to post a doctor summary or anything private, but a simple official message would go a long way, especially with all the speculation going around the interwebs.

I think the remix is much more listenable. One thing that jumps out to me is the Wall-o-Brian is moved into the background, both in the block harmonies and his harmonizing with Paul. Frankly that was always a big problem with much of that album, Brian handling (almost) all the vocals, and not handling them well. This sounds cleaner in that respect. Also some changes in the instruments being highlighted, as well as louder background vocals from Paul in some spots.
Wasn't and isn't among my favorites, but frankly I always found the original an embarrassment. This one is better.

Yeah, I thought the original song was a pretty low point on one of Brian's weaker releases overall. Makes me wonder (please let me) if the album would benefit from a remix.

As I was listening to this, that is exactly what I was thinking. I mean, it absolutely could be improved by basically doing this same thing: taking a careful look at Brian's vocal tracks and either minimizing or removing the sketchier ones. Or even (look out, haters) employing some tuning tools and editing of syllables to line them up as necessary. Because really a lot of the issue is LOUD, quadruple-tracked Brians that don't really align well.
Now, you could also take it a step further and hand the whole damn album over to Darian and Paul to have the BW band touch it up... I don't see that happening. But it would be interesting to hear the album actually get the love and attention it deserved. A lot of those songs are better than they sound in their finished form.

With the increasing unlikelihood of new Brian Wilson albums, I wonder if there's any possibility of a full on reissue campaign for his solo catalog, which could include remixes.

As I mentioned above, I always kinda liked "A Friend Like You". I thought it was better than some of those "new" GIOMH songs, but considering them, I guess that's false praise. With "A Friend Like You", musically, I thought Brian was going a little out-of-the-box which I always welcomed, especially at that stage of his career. Also, Brian's vocal was pretty good. While it was slightly shouty in places, it was also clear and sensitive, and he went high a few times which I always like.
However, those lyrics are so bad that's it's hard to overcome them. The lyrics are the message of the song, the essence of the song, and they're almost embarrassing frankly. I also wished Paul would've been given...more to do. It does sound like he literally phoned in his part. What I really wished for was more of a fun (yes, fun!), rollicking song for Brian and Paul to play off of each other. Paul did that successfully on some of his solo albums with his guests.

Here's an interesting video I came across recently, especially when they go to Brian and some of the comments after. Worth the watch:

I don't believe I or anyone else caught this at the time, but in mid-July Rock Cellar published this interview with Chicago's Robert Lamm. It included this about the tour with Brian Wilson.

That's odd that he'd say Brian didn't want to do Wishing You Were Here, considering he wasn't one of the vocalists who joined Chicago onstage. I wonder if it was Paul who made that call.

My thoughts exactly.
I was also thinking it was weird to say the group comprised "guys who had passed through various iterations of the Beach Boys." But then I thought, well, Al and Blondie, obviously. And Matt. And Gary. So all of a sudden, yeah, that is a pretty big part of the group. And if you add C50, that accounts for Darian, Probyn, Mike, and Paul, too. The group does seem to have become more of a former Beach Boys lineup.

He also mentioned in the "last ten years," so that would also include Foskett and Billy Hinsche.
