Oh, sure, if we want to take it more loosely, he's certainly "nearing the end" ... because he's almost 80. Which is, to be realistic, nearing the end. Nobody is saying he's going to be at it for another 20 years. But if he were planning to retire in the immediate future, I think we can bet he'd be cashing in on the fact promoting a farewell tour.

In this day and age, even for an artist of advancing age, is it even possible to say "Farewell Tour," without fans reacting with giant eye rolls?

I think Brian will be out there as long as "his handlers" keep pushing him out there. The Brian Wilson show must be very profitable - for someone. Again, I just have to say how sad he looks when I see current footage of him onstage. I can't believe he is enjoying this experience. I think Brian would be happier just sitting at home, noodling on the piano, looking out the window. But there's no money to be made in that.

Assuming Brian doesn't have an unfortunate accident or episode on stage in the meantime (I'm being serious), yes, there will probably be a Brian Wilson Farewell Tour. Maybe they can come up with a better term/name. And, you know what? That'll get a lot of press, sell a lot of tickets, and will be quite emotional. I'll be there.

Why are you so dedicated to this ultra-cynical, and largely irrational, narrative/agenda? It's not unlike joining a Beatles forum and incessantly hating on Yoko and spouting Paul is Dead/Faul conspiracy theories. And make no mistake, this is a conspiracy theory. Literally his entire family, bandmates, and doctors would all have to be in on it. Pretty much everyone close to him and anyone associated with touring. And, for what? For how much money is this all being held together so tightly and for so many years? It's been reported many times (not to mention seems highly likely just as an observer from afar) that his tours are NOT "very profitable". By the way, that's quite a healthy and fulfilling life you'd subject Brian to. I'm not sure how much happier he'd actually be, though. I'm guessing his happiness is rather fleeting. Hey, maybe he'd be happier dead? Does that suit you? (And, wouldn't you know it, I'm guessing there's money in that.) (Sorry, if this is not enjoyable content to read, I sympathize.)

I'll just say that each of our impressions or suspicions or speculations about what Brian does or does not want to do, why he does what he does or doesn't do, etc., are entirely irrelevant. Those realities exist, and we're just on the outside chiming in.
We can say he hates it because he looks unhappy. He, his bandmates, his family, and his friends can all insist that, no, as uncomfortable as he may look, he prefers to do this than not. And we, without any first-hand information, say no, he's unhappy and hates it.
Maybe it's projection. "I'd hate to be up there looking like that." Or "if it were me, I'd rather stay home." Or "I hate seeing my musical hero seem so obviously not just aging, but aged." It's looking mortality square in the face.
But what I can guarantee is that any of us who are not in the immediate circle may have every right to speculate, but none of it has the slightest sliver of credibility.

I have no doubt there will be one at some point. But, its doubtful I'd attend. I'm pretty happy with the shows I've attended over the last decade (C50, Brian, M&B, Al), so I'm probably done attending shows unless Brian does another '68 or Xmas Tour.

I have a ticket to what looks like absolutely and without doubt the last monkeys Show with Mike and Mickey at the Greek Theater on the 14th of November. Certainly looks like Mike is really signing off from performing as he has not picked up his guitar at all I don't think in that video clips I've seen and Mickey will likely appear here and there and it's a solo artist but with only one monkey left I think that's really the end. Do I hope they both stay in good health and continue to be Elder Statesman of the Legacy they have created
I have a ticket for Al's show in San Juan Capistrano and it looks like it's not a family and friends tour which seem to be isolated in the east coast so not quite sure where everybody lives in with the logistics are but thinking the show here in Southern California is going to be just al with his son and the other musician who plays keyboards whom I don't remember

(I only remember it off-hand because I looked it up the other day when we were discussing Al's shows.)
I'd be surprised if the musicians' residence-locations would affect the SoCal show, since (as far as I know) Carnie and Rob, and Wendy, all live in California, as do Al and Matt. So all five of the people we know of who participate in Al's shows are California-based. But if that group is a five-piece band (as opposed to five people total), then there may well be musicians who aren't CA-based. I know Al's collaborator Larry Dvoskin is New York-based.
Please be sure to let us know how that show goes. I'll be curious.

I don't know who she was but there was a very talented woman playing keyboards when I saw the show two years ago. Luckily the audience was able to fill in on the number of vocal Parts which Al seem to welcome. At least on a couple of songs. It was hard not to sing every note of everything in fact.

I didn't know he had ever changed up the lineup from those shows. I thought it was always just Al, Matt, and Jeff. I wonder who it was. The only active female instrumentalist I know of in the Beach Boys universe is Debbie Shair. Might it have been her? (See video cued up for a look at her.)

I'm primarily going by his history. Brian was never a live performer. What he liked doing was being in the studio, creating, not being on the stage, trying to reproduce what was done in the studio. I think it's telling that the only song from his solo career that has stayed in the setlists is Love and Mercy. It's like Brian wrote and produced all these great songs for the Beach Boys, and then he did one solo song as a coda to his recording career.

I didn't know Shair had toured on storytellers shows, either, though I guess at least I guessed well.
