I think the product is getting diluted. We already have TNF, which is a pretty awful product with players on short rest. With Thursday Night Football, regardless of the product being diluted and the players performing on short rest, the worst part or the riskiest part is, because of the lack of sufficient time to rest and recover, the players are at even more risk of being injured, or re-injured. Right, and with TNF and an extra regular season game, I think you'll see more key players going on IR by season's end.

Or sitting out for preventative measures. Whether they're injured or healthy DNP-Rest, it's bad for the game overall.
I get it, if I'm an owner I want to maximize profits, too. But there is such a thing as going too far.

Especially with now only one first round bye in the playoffs at stake.

Not unexpectedly, the Vikings signed Kirk Cousins to a 2-year extension. Terms aren't immediately available, but the local press has been speculating that they would do so to help clear cap space by adding years but reducing the immediate cap hit (which I think was $31 million this season).
Over the weekend we cut Xavier Rhodes and Linval Joseph, another two expected moves that save about $19 million.
The defense, which has been mostly very good under Zimmer, will be younger and cheaper next season. It will be interesting to see whether it can get better, or at least remain good.

The Star Tribune reports that the restructuring reduces this year's cap hit by about $10 million, putting us about $30 million less than we were projected to be as of Friday.

The turnover continues with what we in Minnesota like to think is the anti-Herschel Walker trade: Stefon Diggs to Buffalo for a 2020 first, fifth, and sixth rounder, and a 2021 fourth rounder.
Very good receiver, but last year his petulance turned me off A LOT. (Plus he had drop issues.) I say good riddance.

The Ravens were pretty busy too. They traded a 5th round pick (the one we got from the Vikings for VedVik (sp) ) for to JAX for DE Calais Campbell, a much needed pass rusher. We also traded TE Hayden Hurst and a 4th rounder to Atlanta for a 2nd round pick and a 5th round pick. Then, signed Rams DT Michael Brockers.

Up next for Minnesota has to be offensive line help. Since we made clear we prioritize Cousins, we need to get a line that can protect him so he can play to his strengths. When he's protected, he's a REALLY good quarterback. When the pocket breaks down or once he's taken a few hits, he plays rattled and badly. Historically our OL has been a strength, but the past couple years it has been pretty rough.
We're also probably in the market for some players in the secondary (Xavier Rhodes is gone while Trae Waynes and Mackensie Alexander are free agents; Anthony Harris is a FA from the safety spot too) and wide receivers (with Diggs gone, we're looking at Adam Thielen, then a drop off to Olabisi Johnson, Chad Beebe ... not awe inspiring).

The Ravens cut James Hurst yesterday. He's a pretty good guard, but he'll be suspended for the first four games of the season (assuming there is one).

Tom Brady just posted on social media that he will be leaving the New England Patriots. I'll admit that I was wrong about this move. I thought Robert Kraft would do whatever was necessary to keep Brady in New England. I'd love to know the real reason why Brady is leaving.

Some other interesting moves:
- Of course there's the DeAndre Hopkins (and a draft pick) trade to the Cardinals for David Johnson and two draft picks.
- Philip Rivers signed with the Colts. I'm not sure he's much of an upgrade from Jacoby Brissett.
- The Las Vegas Raiders signed Jason Witten. Huh? I thought he'd stay with/retire with the Cowboys.
- Byron Jones signed with the Dolphins.
- In other Cowboys' news, they signed Amari Cooper for 5 years at $100 million.
- And in even more Cowboys' news, they're losing Randall Cobb to the Houstan Texans.
- Cam Newton will probably be leaving the Carolina Panthers.
- Then the Panthers signed Teddy Bridgewater.
- Drew Brees will be around for TWO more years, signing a new contract with the Saints.

So, the Texans have apparently heard from fans who are tired of their one and done playoff appearances, and are taking measures to ensure that they won't make the playoffs for that to happen.
I'm still not 100% believing Brady won't be a Patriot until he actually signs with another team.

I'm still very fond of Bridgewater from his time at Louisville and of course with Minnesota, so I'm glad to see him getting what seems like a starting job in Carolina.
I should add, we lost a starting CB (Trae Waynes) and a valuable DE (Stephen Weatherly).

I'm still not 100% believing Brady won't be a Patriot until he actually signs with another team. At first I thought that, too, but then those parting messages from Kraft and Belichick came out. They wouldn't have written them if they weren't sure Brady was history. Even Giselle posted a parting message.
Now the reports are that Brady is going to Tampa Bay. I'm not that familiar with Tampa Bay's team, but from what I do know, I can't see them as a favorite to go to/win a Super Bowl - with or without Brady.

It's an inspiring story how Bridgewater was able to come back from his gruesome injury, but I never thought of him as a franchise QB or even a QB to lead a team through the playoffs and into the Super Bowl. I do think he'd be a great backup QB to have, if you could afford him.
