I'm still not 100% believing Brady won't be a Patriot until he actually signs with another team. At first I thought that, too, but then those parting messages from Kraft and Belichick came out. They wouldn't have written them if they weren't sure Brady was history. Even Giselle posted a parting message.
Now the reports are that Brady is going to Tampa Bay. I'm not that familiar with Tampa Bay's team, but from what I do know, I can't see them as a favorite to go to/win a Super Bowl - with or without Brady. It could all be posturing on both sides. As a fan of Motley Crue, I no longer believe that anything is final. I really can't see a 43 year old Brady moving the needle with any team. Maybe he'll sell some jerseys.

I don't know Tampa well either. But these two things occurred to me:
1) What happens with Jameis Winston? Young, talented, threw for 5,100 yards and 33 TDs last year. (Also 30 INTs, which calls to mind the old days of Vinny Testeverde. Which brings me to my second one...)
2) I can't get over my childhood image of the Bucs, which is as a joke. I always think back to the mid-80s, when they had high draft picks and just couldn't do anything. From '82 to '96, they never won more than 7 games (and reached that just once). I realize obviously they later won a Super Bowl and had good years under Tony Dungy, but to me, they're always the sure-thing win in the old NFC Central! So it is hilarious that Tom Brady would go there other than to retire.

I'm still very fond of Bridgewater from his time at Louisville and of course with Minnesota, so I'm glad to see him getting what seems like a starting job in Carolina.
It's an inspiring story how Bridgewater was able to come back from his gruesome injury, but I never thought of him as a franchise QB or even a QB to lead a team through the playoffs and into the Super Bowl. I do think he'd be a great backup QB to have, if you could afford him. He's the ultimate game manager, and by all accounts he's an amazing teammate and leader. But "game manager" speaks to your point. He's a very accurate passer, but he's not a risk taker. He throws to check-down options, to the backs, to TEs, but rarely is willing to gamble down the field. For that reason, I think you're right. I don't think HE wins you the Super Bowl. That said, if the team around him is the right one, maybe. Dominant defense, good running game? Sure, he can drive that car.

I thought Brady was leaking oil not just last year but for the last two years. Tampa Bay better be able to protect him.
I'm more fascinated to see what Belichick does in New England. Not that he isn't always motivated, but I'm sure he'll turn that up a notch now. I'm very curious who he picks as his new QB. Also, New England is loaded with draft picks and cap space. It isn't necessarily re-building, but now Belichick can reform his team exactly the way he wants to, without having to "keep" a 43 year-old as his starting QB. It's on to Cincinnati.

He really looked ordinary after the halfway point in the season last year once the Patriots started to play some better teams. I don't see the Bengals making a play for Brady unless they want him to mentor Joe Burrow.

The Eagles disrespected and messed around with Malcolm Jenkins - their best secondary player and a leader on and off the field - and he went and signed with the Saints for 4 years at $32 million. Good for him and bad for the Eagles.

The Vikings signed their apparent replacement for Linval Joseph, giving former Ravens DT Michael Pierce three years and $27 million. KDS, anything you can tell me about him?
They've also released OG Josh Kline, a primary signee only last year.

Pearce was a really good run stopper in 2018, but he showed up in camp very overweight last season, and wasn't quite the same. If he can keep his weight in check, he can be a very good DT.

I did see that about the weight. Lovely... But really, if he can be a run-stopper, that's really all we need. Traditionally our DTs aren't asked to contribute much, if at all, to the pass rush (at least not since the great, great Keith Millard, Henry Thomas, John Randle years). Just occupy a guy or two while Danielle Hunter wreaks havoc!

Cornerback Mackenzie Alexander has rejoined cornerback Trae Waynes by signing with the Cincinnati Bengals. Safety Jayron Kearse also left, signing with Detroit.
Minnesota's most experienced cornerback now is Mike Hughes, entering his third season with five starts under his belt. Whether by free agency or the draft, something has to happen on that front!

After the disappointing loss of Malcolm Jenkins, the Eagles bounced back and acquired Pro Bowl cornerback Darius Slay from Detroit for a third round and fifth round draft pick.

The Rams released RB Todd Gurley. They would have owed Gurley a $10.5 million bonus if he was still on the team's roster at 4:00 PM EST today.

And now safety Andrew Sendejo (who had started here for years before leaving for Philly ... and then returning midseason last year) has left, signing with the Browns.
Minnesota's secondary is really taking a beating.
