By the way, we had 9 votes for Sunflower's worst. Here were the results: Perhaps this could be used for tiebreaker purposes?

By the way, we had 9 votes for Sunflower's worst. Here were the results: Perhaps this could be used for tiebreaker purposes? There really aren't any BAD songs on Sunflower. I've criticized Deidre for being too cutesy; I'd probably like the song more if it was called Anna or Laurie or something. I used to think Got to Know the Woman was kind of silly, but Joshlyn's analysis gave me renewed appreciation for that song. Oh, Joshlyn, where, where can she be?

Round 17 is over. We can't have a tie in these late rounds, so I'm using my executive authority to change my vote to Tears in the Morning. I should have kept the vote in my back pocket anyway knowing there would likely be a tie.
Tears in the Morning: 4 It's About Time: 3 Pet Sounds: 1
Final round starts now! Vote for your least favorite song.
-It's About Time -Pet Sounds
I'm going with Pet Sounds. I've always loved It's About Time as the band needed more rockers in my book. That bridge is hard to beat, too. I've never been one to get hung up on lyrics too much, especially with the Beach Boys. It's certainly better than a song with no lyrics, such as Pet Sounds. I think it would have left this game a number of rounds ago if not for the album it's on.

I'm unsurprisingly, considering my recent votes, going with It's About Time, with almost 100% disagreement for The Cincinnati Kid's reasoning! I think Pet Sounds is a very good piece of music, and I think It's About Time is a narcissistic, second-rate rocker by a group trying to figure out what it ought to be. (Please note, "second-rate" doesn't mean terrible, it means less than first-rate. The track is fine; Pet Sounds is excellent.)

I love IAT (Denny and Carl rock!), so my vote goes to "Pet Sounds."

I'm going to go with Pet Sounds.
As I said, I don't even think it's the best instrumental on the album. And, I only listen to it if I happen to be listening to PS in full (which I cannot say for the other 12 tracks on the album).
But, I really like It's About Time.

I can't say that I really like "It's About Time", and it is one of the weaker songs on Sunflower. And, I'll just get this out of the way - it would've made the perfect closer on the album, but I digress. That being said, "It's About Time", as has been pointed out in this thread, has some distinct musical merit. Carl's lead vocal is excellent and Mike fits in there nicely, too. The slowed-down bridge is kind of cool, and the song rocks out. I always welcome some Beach Boys' rock & roll. The pretentious lyrics try to ruin everything the song has going for it, but I'm able to ignore them, or try to ignore them.
I've asked myself a couple of times in this thread - would I rate/rank "Pet Sounds" as highly if it wasn't on THAT album? And the answer I'm arriving at is "no". I'm looking for highlights. The intro? Meh. The melody? It's OK I guess, but is it special, for a Brian Wilson melody in 1965-66? And then the song goes into bridge/segue that takes the song in another direction; interesting but nothing exciting. Eventually the song fades off. It's a nice fade, there's some nice interplay with the instruments. But, it's just an average song to me, dare I say below average? There are a few BB instrumentals I prefer. And, yes, there were times after "I Just Wasn't Made For These Times" that I skipped over it to get to "Caroline, No".
My vote is "Pet Sounds" to go. Sorry.

"It's About Time" as a closer, SJS? I don't hear that at all.
Anyway, I'm not too thrilled that either of these tracks made it this far. Of the 39 we started with, I'd rank both middle of the pack. I do prefer "Pet Sounds", though. While I agree with KDS that it's not the best instrumental on Pet Sounds, it doesn't detract from the album. I never skip it. Can't say the same for "It's About Time".
So, my vote is for "It's About Time". (Although, it's long past time.)
