The Orioles have been one of the hottest teams in baseball this summer.
As of this morning, they find themselves in a tie for the 4th Wild Card spot with Tampa Bay.
Not too shabby for a team that I thought might just narrowly avoid 100 losses.

Adley Rutschman looks like a real star. The Orioles were always one of my favorite teams, so I'll be rooting for them should they make it in.
I'm watching my Redlegs right now in the field of dreams game. In yet another lost season, this is a nice break from reality and feels like a big game. I question how long baseball can keep doing this without it becoming an afterthought, but for now this is a fun thing to watch once a year.

I question how long baseball can keep doing this without it becoming an afterthought, but for now this is a fun thing to watch once a year. I tuned into the FOD game for a little bit last night. I think FOX should've at least used the team colors on the score bug, since the retro Cubs logo was very similar to the Reds logo. I'm not sure how long baseball can play that game until the novelty wears off, but it's a brilliant idea. I saw a suggestion that they should do a similar game with the setting of The Sandlot. Sounds like a great idea, but the field in The Sandlot wasn't exactly a pro field like the one in FOD, and I think making it look like a pro diamond would take away some of the potential charm. Yeah, I think Adley's the real deal. It's a shame he was injured in ST. I really think he'd have been on the Opening Day roster, and who knows, maybe with him, the Orioles don't get off to that dreadful start.

The 2022 regular season is over.
The Orioles finished 83-79. They were right in the thick of the race for a Wild Card berth, but the engines sputtered a bit in September. But, still a very successful season, considered we're the first team since 1899 to finish with a winning record after a 110 loss season.
Things are looking up in Birdland.

The Twins started relatively strong, but sputtered to a third-place finish in the AL Central. They were actually 30-21 to start, but never topped .500 in another month all season.

It seemed like Jorge Lopez regressed considerably from his All Star form after the Orioles traded him to the Twins in late July.

How 'bout those Phillies! I didn't see this coming. You can never count 'em out. I'm really happy for Bryce Harper.

I'm not sure I'll ever get used to saying this in late March, but....
Happy Opening Day baseball fans.
I'm hoping my Baltimore Orioles can continue their ascent after a surprising 83-80 season last year. They're opening in Boston today, and Adley Rutschman hit a solo HR in his first AB of the season.

The Twins open in an hour or so in Kansas City ... and it's a good thing since it's 65 there and 32 with our sleet-snow-rainstorm beginning right now. Our home opener is a week from today: as of now, the forecast is 38 degrees. We'll see!
There is a certain amount of measured optimism for the Twins this year. I understand some outlets are saying they could win the AL Central, though that's not a universally shared opinion.

Some of the Orioles top prospects are starting the season in AAA, and the Orioles didn't really acquire any real impact players in the offseason. So, the general feeling, at least from our more logical fans who've been paying attention to the rebuild effort is that this season is more or less more about development, with really going all in next season.
I still think the Orioles have enough talent to win 85 or so games, which could be good enough to compete for a Wild Card spot. And, that's discounting the possibility that we could be buyers at the deadline as opposed to sellers.

The Orioles won 10-9 yesterday in Fenway. They nearly surrendered a 10-4 lead, but a win is a win is a win.

The Orioles narrowly avoided a sweep at the hands of Kap's Twins yesterday.
The win capped a somewhat disappointing 4-5 homestand, but at just over the halfway point of the season, the Orioles are sitting at 49-33. Not too shabby.

The Twins are sitting atop the AL Central, yet honestly I'm not hearing much about them locally at all. I suppose that could be because despite their perch, they're below .500 at 42-43. Or maybe it's just that nobody wants to spend much time outside this summer with the air what it has been.

Or maybe it's just that nobody wants to spend much time outside this summer with the air what it has been. Yeah, the AL Central is pretty weak right now. You guys have really good pitching though, so you could be dangerous if you make the postseason. There's a steadily growing buzz about the Orioles in town. They've made it through the rebuilding / tanking seasons, and after a surprising winning season last year (82-80), appear to be primed for a playoff spot this season. Attendance is on the uptick. It's good to see because the Orioles in the 21st Century really have done a lot of harm to the fanbase. They had 14 straight losing seasons from 1998-2011, and when they had some success from 2012-16, the front office really didn't build on it, and that team collapsed in 2017-18, which lead to an Astros esque rebuild / tank effort which saw some very bad baseball from 2019-2021, and even into 2022.
