I forgot to post, but I did finally watch the trailer over the weekend. And, I'll say I'm more optimistic about the doc than I originally was. That's how I felt after seeing the trailer, too. I still don't expect my world to be rocked, but I do expect to enjoy plenty of the doc. Hopefully some cool old clips, some fun Brianisms, interesting commentary from some of the guests, and [fingers crossed] the new song is good.
$14.99 seems a little steep for a rental considering historically you could buy DVDs for $20, but for this one I won't complain about it. You can't wait for two years, bemoaning delays and saying how much you want to see it, only to bitch that it's too expensive when it's still less than the price of having a large pizza delivered.

The new song sounded pretty good. I might wait and see if the price decreases after the New Year. I shift into Christmas mode for much of late November and December, so I don't know if I'd have time to watch it anyway. If not, I'll pay it, but to be honest, for $15, I'd rather just buy a DVD.

A few days ago I complained on Brian's Instagram page that there are no showings within two hours of Cincinnati. I like to think I had some influence as all of a sudden there is a showing here on Wednesday. They even read my mind as it's playing at the exact theater I was going to suggest (had anyone asked). The latest showing is 5:30, so I'm going to miss it. There's a 7:40 on Thursday, so I'll probably hit up that one if nothing pops up for the weekend.

The $14.99 is to purchase the movie, not just to rent. It’s pretty normal Amazon/iTunes/google play movies/YouTube movies pricing. $14.99 to purchase, $3.99 to rent. Also it appears as if the DVD will be released on January 18 according to the Amazon UK listing

I'm actually leaning toward just renting and counting on it to be available in the future if and when I want to see it again. Realistically, I don't return to the old docs as much as I used to, and it's likely I'd watch this once and be done.
Plus, I don't even have a real DVD player anymore: I never replaced one that died probably 10 years ago. I used to just use my MacBooks, but the past two of those don't have DVD players in them either. I picked up a cheap little thing from Target that I can connect to the laptops and that works to play, burn and rip CDs and DVDs.

If Amazon Prime has the option to rent for $3.99, I'll go that route, but if it's exclusively a $15 digital purchase, I'd rather just have the disc. Granted, multiple watches aren't likely, but I'm still a little set in my ways when it comes to stuff like this, especially if the price is the same. Plus, I do still use my DVD / BluRay player from time to time, especially at Christmastime.

Did anyone go see the doc in theaters last night? Curious to hear responses or impressions.

Did anyone go see the doc in theaters last night? Curious to hear responses or impressions. I had the opportunity to, but decided I’d rather watch from the comfort of home. I’ve seen a few positive reviews (no negative reviews) but I’m trying to avoid spoilers. I plan on watching either Friday or Saturday.

I am most likely going to watch tomorrow night, but we'll see.

Brian made a guest appearance at a Q & A after an L.A. screening of Long Promised Road. Warning: It's very sad to see. Brian comes on at 8:20:

Here is a Rock Cellar interview with Brent Wilson about the doc. And there is one answer that warrants particular attention:
A soundtrack album that will be ALL NEW MUSIC? (Obviously if it includes "Honeycomb," it won't be NEW-new, as in new originals, but at least newly recorded and released, I assume?)

The soundtrack album is not necessary. It'll come and go with barely a whisper, even more than Brian's other solo albums. They blew it again. It was staring them right in the face. Here was an opportunity to take a half-dozen new (in some degree/form) BW songs and "build" a 60th Anniversary BEACH BOYS' album!

This is definitely intriguing, especially since I really liked the snippet of Right Where I Belong.

Here was an opportunity to take a half-dozen new (in some degree/form) BW songs and "build" a 60th Anniversary BEACH BOYS' album! I don't know that I can agree with you. First, "necessary" has nothing to do with any of this! It's pop music, NONE OF IT is necessary! Second, it's his career, he's welcome to do what he wants, whether or not it it'll "come and go with barely a whisper."
Sure, if the soundtrack includes some good Brian Wilson songs and you are in the camp that prefers a Beach Boys reunion album, I get the frustration. (I share that part of it, to some degree.) But that's flawed thinking to imagine those are the only two possibilities. Just as likely might be it was either this soundtrack album or not, with no option for a Beach Boys album. The fantasizing is enjoyable, but that doesn't make any of the fantasies real.
It's entirely possible--speculation alert!--that there just isn't any desire from the principals to make a new Beach Boys album for the anniversary. That they're willing to cash in on the documentary, on some tribute shows, maybe on a track or two but probably just another comp. If that's the case, I'm not about to say that Brian ought not have released this album, whether it's a total commercial dud (quite likely) or a success (highly unlikely). I want the new music, just as I did No Pier Pressure and TLOS and the rest.
