Well THOUSANDS might be stretching it!
But generally speaking, Americans aren’t up on other countries’ celebrities to a very great degree. In her case, era probably factors in. Maybe older Americans are more familiar than I am.

I had never heard of her until hearing a remembrance yesterday morning on the radio. I hadn't heard of her until I became a massive fan of Pink Floyd's The Wall. She's immortalized on the song "Vera"

R.I.P Johnny Mandel, who passed away at the age of 94. In addition to composing "The Shadow Of Your Smile", "Emily", and the theme from M*A*S*H, Johnny also wrote the arrangements for Frank Sinatra's 1961 album, Ring-a-Ding-Ding!

Rest in peace, Max Crook (2 November 1936 - 1 July 2020)Maximilian, as he was known professionally, played the seminal Musitron solo on "Runaway" and other Del Shannon tracks. Note the pitch-bending on Del's "Don't Gild The Lily, Lily": en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Max_Crook

A belated R.I.P. to singer Benny Mardones, who passed away on June 29, 2020 at the age of 73. Benny only had one hit, but, oh, what a classic it was. "Into the Night" was a great radio and club song, actually reaching the Top 20 on the Billboard Singles Chart twice - in 1980 and 1989.

I meant to comment on this, and actually "correct" you that Jamie Oldaker only played on the Frehley's Comet album Second Sighting: legendary Anton Fig had been on the debut and their EP, Live + 1. I thought this video must be from the corresponding video, Live +4 (which I owned on VHS at the time) and thus would also have Fig...
Glad I didn't "correct" you, because I was wrong: the video indeed had Oldaker, as Ace even introduces him (as the newest member).
I had no idea of Oldaker's past at the time I was listening.

Oh, that's awful. He's one of those brilliant, mostly under-the-radar talents. I remember stumbling across his music maybe 10-15 years ago and being just astonished. This guy wasn't ever successful? A veritable one-man-band a la McCartney?

Comedian/actor/podcaster Marc Maron will be crushed! I swear, he never gets through a podcast with a musician without talking about Peter Green.

R.I.P. Peter Green (October 29, 1946 - July 25, 2020) who passed away in his sleep. Well, goodbye, Peter Green. Pity he died. He's better Fleetwood Mac musician-singer-leader than Lindsay Buckingham. Initial band's music is really cool.

Initial band's music is really cool. Peter went through some heavy times. Hopefully he's at peace now. I remember being blown away by highly original stuff like "Oh Well" at the time. And this one, arguably their finest hour in the early lineup: I must admit I too had trouble initially with the new direction Mac went in. But now "The Green Manalishi" and "That's All For Everyone" co-exist peacefully in the jk head.

I was posting "Godstar", Psychic TV's homage to Brian Jones, at another forum when I was shocked to learn that group mastermind Genesis P-Orridge died last March. Actually, it was that forum's RangeRoverA1 who introduced me to this record, this artist and by inference the music of Throbbing Gristle. Rest in peace, Gen-P. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genesis_P-Orridge
