Here is a review of the Beach Boys' Sunday night show at the Greek in LA, as published in LA Weekly. The reviewer is, suffice to say, not a fan of Mike Love (or at least his politics). And I can't disagree that while Stamos being included is fine, bringing out Mark McGrath (and letting him do the Sugar Ray song "Fly"!?) is not a good decision...
But as the title of the review says, "There's Still Much to Love about the Beach Boys."
Other than the bizarre decision to allow Mark McGrath to play the grating Summer of 1997 hit "Fly," and those LOCASH fellers, it looks like a pretty good setlist overall. I hope The Professor enjoyed himself, and perhaps will return to BBT to post a review. www.setlist.fm/setlist/the-beach-boys/2022/greek-theatre-los-angeles-ca-2bb3bc0a.html

Apparently the Beach Boys' shows with Stamos over the weekend were mini-Full House reunions, with tributes to the late Bob Saget and at least one with Lori Laughlin on stage, too.
It seems they dedicated the "Beach Boys' classic hit 'Forever'" (well, they're partly right: it is a Beach Boys classic ... but hit?) to Saget.
In a strange way, the Beach Boys being associated with Saget makes some sense symbolically. Both are generally seen as wholesome, All-American fun. But both had sides not quite hidden from the public, yet somehow not widely understood: the Beach Boys as a pack of infighting, substance abusing, lawsuit-wielding lunatics; and Saget of course as one of the most foul-mouthed, offensive comedians around.

Plus, he bravely tried to do a one man version of Good Vibrations

20 years ago, I had a co-worker named Jesse, and I always called him Uncle Jesse. He didn't mind being compared to John Stamos. He even suggested I watch a roast of Stamos. Bob Saget was on it. Or was it a roast of Saget with Stamos guesting? Anyway, it was just filthy, disgusting. It was rude, it was crude, and I'm not a prude, but this dude did not find it entertaining at all. So yeah, it's funny that most people remember Saget as the Pat Boone of Full House - squeaky clean father of 3 blonde girls. And how many casual Beach Boys fans have ever listened closely to the end of "All I Want to Do" or heard Dennis utter "she took off her clothes and moved in my direction?"

If it was the Saget roast, there was a glorious bit of unfunny clean humor when Norm Macdonald refused to do what you're supposed to do, and instead read clean, very old jokes in a deadpan voice--sometimes even repeating punchlines or explaining them to the point of being tedious. It was unbelievably funny how not funny it was. Apparently the audience didn't laugh at all, though his comedian friends on the dais like Saget, Gilbert Gottfried (both RIP), etc., were dying at his nerve. Like a piece of Andy Kaufman performance art.

Speaking of the Full House connection, though, here is a new article about their association with Stamos.

When are Mike and Bruce going to invite Tim Allen onstage?
It seems the BB appearance on Home Improvement wasn't quite as (in)famous. Perhaps because The Boys weren't hot off a #1 hit at the time.

Here is a positive but by-numbers review of a Beach Boys show earlier this week in Michigan.

I saw Mike and Bruce Tuesday night. Another great performance and it helped that the crowd was into it and even stood for most of the show. Since they played with the Four Tops, it was a pretty meat and potatoes setlist. I was surprised they didn't even do California Dreamin', but I guess that is saved for the longer setlists by themselves. Not really a whole lot else to say other than everyone was in good vocal form. I enjoyed myself as usual, but those extra 5-6 songs when they're not playing with another group really add to the experience, for me. I also just realized this was the first time I saw them and they didn't perform Be True to Your School. Maybe Mike can no longer Whennnnnnnnnnnn

It's gonna be a sad day when Mike and Bruce finally hang up their hats. Go and see them while you can.

Really enjoyed their performance in February. Paid $62.50 a ticket for the Lied Center show and we are in the fourth row. Can’t beat that! So excited!

Back in Feb 2016, I scored 2nd row seats for Mike and Bruce in Baltimore for $60 each. That show was the only time I've been lucky enough to hear Warmth of the Sun live.

Here is a review from the Aug. 18 Beach Boys show published yesterday. It's glowing, if in need of a copy editor.

The Beach Boys almost always seem to make a late summer stop at Wolf Trap in Vienna, VA to play a Sunday afternoon matinee show. www.setlist.fm/setlist/the-beach-boys/2022/filene-center-at-wolf-trap-vienna-va-6bb36252.htmlMy wife and I attended one of these shows in late August 2015, and we were fortunate to catch David Marks with the band that day. The venue isn't terribly convenient for us, being about a 90 minute drive, but I love the idea of daytime matinee concerts.

That’s a great review! Less than one month until I get to see them again! I’m already getting excited.
