I can an events notification on Facebook that Mike and Bruce Beach Boys will be doing a Sunday Matinee Show at Wolf Trap in Vienna, VA. The show is a part of the "Sixty Years of Sounds of Summer Tour."
So, I guess that's 60 years of the sounds of summer, because Sounds of Summer is only 19 years old.

And I'm sure this means no reunion this year. I'm okay with that.

I’d be more excited if I didn’t have to wear a damn mask - but I will deal because it is two members of The Beach Boys and it may be one of my last opportunities to see them live.

I just looked at the set list from the last two concerts and they performed “Your So Good to Me” with Bruce on vocals and Bruce did indeed perform “Disney Girls”. Crossing my fingers that I get to hear those next Wednesday. Alas - no “All I Wanna Do”, but maybe I’ll get lucky and Mike will read my Facebook comments and messages and make my wish come true. The set lists for this tour look pretty good - so my excitement is building!

Sorry, but I have to make the periodic reminder: there was never any reason to believe there was going to be a 60th reunion (full) tour. It wasn't ever even hinted. Documentary has been mentioned as in the works. Some show(s)--or possibly other artists doing tribute show(s)--was mentioned, but on a very limited scale. That's it! A tour was always a fan-dream.

Also, and this might fall under fan dream territory, but a BB reunion / farewell tour type of thing isn't 100% dependent on anniversary years.

My favorite moment from tonight’s show at the Kauffman Center. I wanted to actually watch most of it, so I only recorded this little bit. I knew it was coming up because of Setlist fm and it is one of my favorite Beach Boys songs and I knew Bruce would knock it out of the park!

Maybe there just hasn't been enough live music in my life lately*, but I'm really looking forward to your review later today, carllove!
*I haven't been to a show in a solid 2 years, so that's actually obviously the case.

It's now been over two years since my last show of any kind. It was Brian Wilson in January 2020. Going to a concert is pretty much the last normal thing I haven't done since COVID hit.

The Mike Love version of The Beach Boys performed last night at the beautiful Kauffman Center in Kansas City. The “Sixty Years of the Sounds of Summer” tour, sees them dropping the Feel Flows songs (other than “Disney Girls”) and going back to mostly oldies hits about surf and cars, with a sprinkling of some deeper cuts.
“Do it Again”, “Surfin Safari” and “Catch a Wave” start things out, Scott Totten has the band playing tight and the vocals show the benefit of a month’s rest. I really enjoyed “Hawaii”, and “Little Honda” is a super fun song for a concert. The screen above the group alternates between psychedelic atmosphere and pictures and videos of the band from the 60’s. Mike has everyone hold up their cellphones with the flashlights on for “Surfer Girl”. I was literally the only person standing, out of the thousand or so in attendance, until that moment. “Getcha Back” is a little more “current” and sounds really good. I’m dancing and singing in a mask, getting ready to hear Bruce sing one of my favorite’s “You’re So Good to Me”. I pull my mask down and yell “I love you Bruce!” The pre show margarita’s have really kicked in. Bruce sounds great for a 79 year old. No one there had a clue that he didn’t sing the original vocals. John Cowsill does an upstanding job singing “Darlin” and I realize that Brian Eichenberger has a decent enough voice to sing “Don’t Worry Baby” without me cringing. “Shut Down” closes out the first set and now it’s time for some Chardonnay! After a conversation at the stand up table we shared with a slightly younger couple, I realize that no one at the concert even knows the name of a single Beach Boy.
Set two starts with “California Dreaming” and while it sounds good, it really makes me miss Carl. “Sloop John B” and “Wouldn’t it be Nice” brings us into the Pet Sounds world and after “California Girls” I get to the moment I had been most anticipating - Bruce singing “Disney Girls”. I once again declare my undying love for Bruce and toss my hair hoping to get his attention. I don’t think he see’s me. I am the only one standing AND by now I have bruised hands from clapping because SOMEBODY has to show some appreciation for my favorite band. Christian Love doesn’t sound as bad as I heard he did when he sang “God Only Knows”, but I start to wish I had heard Jeff Foskett sing it live. Of course I did hear Carl sing it back in 1986, but you have heard that story.
Oh no - now it’s time for Mike to show off the two days he spent with George Harrison. Lord help all of us! When that painful two song bummer blessedly ends “Kokomo” finally gets the crowd on their feet and they remain upright for “Good Vibrations”. Then I leave because I don’t want to hear another Mike Love song, and “Fun, Fun, Fun” is just Meh to me.
I picked up a cool tie dye shirt with the Feel Flows cover on it. I didn’t even look to see if there was an actual shirt for this tour. I was sad that there really didn’t seem to be many (or any) fans as crazy as I am about the Boys at the concert. I expect to see a bit of a different crowd this Summer when I see Brian, Al and Blondie with Chicago. It was fun anyway and I’m glad I went. My husband even said that he had fun.

Sounds like you had a great time--and that you were really doing all the heavy lifting from the audience perspective! Hope your well-clapped hands recover.

Thanks for the excellent review, carllove! I'm glad you got to see and hear some of your favorites.
Just a quick thought on a few of carlove's comments regarding the fans generally not really getting into it or knowing as much (the names of the group members and who sang what on the original recordings). I'm wondering if many (most?) of the band's diehards or major fans have stopped going to the shows for multiple reasons, or passed on , and now The Beach Boys have become "a reason" to go out for the evening, to see a show, or to hear some live music. Just a thought.

Just a thought. SJS, I think part of the issue was the venue. A great number of the attendees were season ticket holders or their parent's were. It seats 1800 and of the thousand or so there, I would say more than half had season tickets. I talked to the people next to us as well as in the lobby while having drinks, and not a single person had purchased tickets specifically for this show. In two cases, the concert goers were using their parent's tickets, even though those parent's would have been much more familiar with the music. There were just as many people younger than me there as there were older folks. I think they had trouble selling tickets, because it was heavily advertised. You had to wear a mask and bring your proof of vaccine, so that cut the numbers down some. I would surmise that fans of Mike and Bruce tend to be more on the conservative side and may have balked at those restrictions.
