I'm curious...Did anyone on this board purchase the CD or vinyl set? Not I. I've never bought any of the hits packages. I'm a new albums and rarities guy.

I'm curious...Did anyone on this board purchase the CD or vinyl set? No, nor do I plan to since I already have a copy of Sounds of Summer, and new mixes aren't enough to entice me to buy it again. In fact, after listening to SOS 2.0 a couple times, I still feel like the mid 00s combo of Sounds of Summer and The Warmth of the Sun is a better overall collection. Granted, SOS 2.0 goes a little deeper, but the SOS/WOTS combo includes Catch a Wave, Please Let Me Wonder, The Little Girl I Once Knew, California Dreamin', 409, and Little Honda, so it feels more like a best of collection to me. But, I have streamed it twice so I think that means I counted for 1/5 of a sale.

I'm a completist of sorts, so I bought the 3-CD set. Disc one is currently in the car CD player.

Down to #74 on the Billboard 200. Still not too shabby.

I'm a completist of sorts, so I bought the 3-CD set. Disc one is currently in the car CD player. After listening to the first two discs on Apple Music earlier this Summer, I finally grabbed my actual copy of the CD and put disc 3 in my car stereo and I love the sequencing. Great combination of songs. Only thing I don't like is the version of "Vegetables" that was used. I LOVE this version of "Suzie Cincinnati". I had never heard the B side single version of that song before. I actually like that song for once. "Everyone's in Love with You" sounds pretty good as well. I will probably keep this disc around awhile. Very eclectic mix of songs. I like hearing the more recent stuff together with the older stuff. Just makes me appreciate the Boys even more. So much wonderful on one disc.

I don't even own the original Sounds of Summer; I've got Endless Summer, Spirit of America, Good Vibrations - Best of the Beach Boys, and Made in USA, didn't really think I needed another comp. But now I'm thinking about getting it. It does sort of feel essential, being the success that it is.

Good thing about Apple Music - it gives you an opportunity to try it before you buy it. I really enjoyed listening to it this Summer on my phone - so I decided to get a hard copy. Glad I did. It’s really fun and sounds “fresh” despite all the bitching about it on EH and Hoffman.

I've listened to SOS 2.0 several times on Spotify this summer. I can't say that I feel the need to acquire a physical copy, but I also do not really get the massive overreactions to the remixes. It's not like they're replacing the original songs that everybody already owns ten times over.

I would understand people's complaints if the new versions were replacing previous ones: if you could no longer find the original or classic mixes and masters, that would be something you may well be upset about. Not every remix or remaster is even as good, much less better.
But since it's a "yes, and" situation? Let many flowers bloom.

It's not like they're replacing the original songs that everybody already owns ten times over. I love some of the new remixes and other’s not so much. But I like hearing songs in a “new” way where you often can hear things you missed before. If I want an “audiophile” experience, like most folks, I will listen to one of my AP, DCC or Green Label Capitol LP’s. There is a 98 page thread on Hoffman just talking about the AP SACD’s. My home system wouldn’t even be considered worthy to participate in the discussion. I like to purchase CD’s so I can listen to music on the disc changer in my 2007 Toyota Avalon. This one was cheap enough. It’s fun to change out the discs every so often. Some discs - like discs 2 and 3 of the GV Boxset - stay in there for years. I’ve had Disc 5 of Feel Flows in my car since the day I received it.

You're talking to guy who hears most of his music these days through ear buds or a computer speaker. At the end of the day, I just want the songs.

I don't get the reaction to the remixes, either. Finally sat down with the remixed All Things Must Pass a few weeks ago, and it was nice. Not radically different. And the original mixes will be available forever.
