As the entire purpose of these releases is copyright extension, and due to the European copyright laws, unreleased music they wish not to fall into public domain must be released 50 years within its *recording* year. Meaning that all of the unreleased music from the catp and holland sessions, in order not to fall into public domain, *must* be released before December 31, 2022, given that nothing from either album was recorded in 73. Thanks, and I was thinking that, too ... but then how did it come to pass that the Sunflower stuff was able to just come out in '21 rather than '20? I know most--probably the vast majority--of the previously unreleased things were from '71, but I don't think all of them were, were they? The only tracks from 1970 that had to be covered were Big Sur, Sweet and Bitter, My Solution, Seasons In The Sun, back home piano version and You Never Give Me Your Money, if I’m not mistaken. All were on the All Music release, all as 30 second previews, therefore they were technically released in 2020.

To paraphrase the big guy in one of the docs, "my memory is getting senile." Thanks.
By this time next year, I'll probably have forgotten the whole damn Feel Flows album at the rate I'm going.

According to people who were there on EH and elsewhere, at the last Al show he mentioned the Sail On, Sailor release is currently scheduleed for November

I've got nothing new to add, here. No news. Sorry if the new posting here was a tease.
My post is just for this: we've heard this new set should be released in late '22, and for me, anyway, that has seemed a long ways off. But we're almost halfway through 2022! We might be getting some more concrete information about this one in the coming few months, maybe late summer? Release dates, track lists, pre-release singles... It shouldn't be long now.

The Feel Flows set was officially announced in early June last year.

I've heard the remixes are not happening. Not sure if that's a good or bad thing with how some of the stuff on Feel Flows sounded.

I have to say, I think these two albums may be the ones I'd most want to be at least remastered, if not remixed. They're the muddiest Beach Boys albums, imo. Very disappointing if we can't get another stab at those tunes.

Remasters never sound much different to my ears, so certainly disappointed that's all we're getting.

Not that I necessarily need albums to be remixed, but at least that's something (significantly) new/different to listen to (depending on the remix, of course). Remastering alone isn't significant enough to interest me in most cases.

For me it depends on the remix or the remaster.
A remix CAN sound completely different. In the modern sense, "remix" often is a lot more than that, since it often adds to what was originally there (e.g., putting some dance beat to something). But I don't consider that a remix, exactly. However, just using what is available from the source material, you can do a LOT with a remix. You can bring out an instrument that might have been totally left off the final original mix, you can change the balances to highlight some cool parts, you can of course play with the stereo spectrum ... sometimes the result ends up more or less identical to the original mix, but sometimes it's almost a different song. And that means it might be better or worse to one's taste.
Remastering, though, is usually a lot less dramatic. Noise reduction, compression, EQ, are a lot of mastering, as well as (HOPEFULLY) going to original source material as opposed to possibly using copies of copies. Often I've had remastered albums that I couldn't tell the difference from previous versions, but sometimes it's also pretty noticeable.
While previously unreleased material is still my preference for these kinds of things, as I said above, I do think these two albums were probably more in need of remixing and/or remastering than any others.

It just occurred to me that the clock keeps ticking on this release. Doesn't it seem like we ought to be hearing something about it sooner than later, if it has to come out by the end of the year?
Though I can't recall how the digital-only releases were handled: were they more or less just dropped without fanfare, or were there still announcements? Obviously this isn't getting anything like the Feel Flows treatment, so maybe it'll just appear one day in November (if that previously referenced release date is accurate).
