Thanks for the link. The closest they are coming to me is Washington D.C., about a 3.5 - 4 hour drive. But, I've never seen Sparks. They never really toured a lot. One of these days...

Closest to me is St.Paul, MN and that is a 7 hour drive. Maybe they will add more shows? I signed up for tour notifications on their website.

A multi-artist covers version of the Velvet Underground & Nico curated by the late Hal Willner is due for release this fall. (Willner had quite a career of such projects, both on albums and with live performances.)
Among the artists are Michael Stipe, Courtney Barnett, Iggy Pop, St. Vincent, Angel Olsen, Sharon Van Etten, and others. The first track to see release is Kurt Vile's version of "Run Run Run."

If you're so inclined, help make Pitchfork's upcoming "25 Best Albums of the Past 25 Years" list better than you know it is going to otherwise be. Readers can vote anytime up through August 20. You must provide a list ranking at least 10, but up to 25, albums.
It's funny to me thinking how different this is likely to look compared to if they had done something like this in, say, 2011, with their style and perspective having massively changed in the '10s. The kind of guitar-based indie rock they were founded on has long-since given way to a more pop- and rap-oriented base. I'd assume (?) the majority of their readers are of the new ilk, but maybe there are other "legacy readers" such as myself who have shifted from majority to minority opinions within the site.

For S&Gs, I pulled this up. I noticed several albums were already generated to come up, but very few of my choices. I guess Pitchfork overlooks obscure artists like The Beach Boys, The Who, and Iron Maiden.

I'd say they probably prepopulated whatever they had reviewed, but I'm pretty sure they reviewed TWGMTR.
Correction: I just checked, and they did not. (Which is actually really annoying, in that they gave The Smile Sessions a 10 just a year before. But I suppose the idea was that was their experimental masterpiece, while anything new would be lame old white guy music.)
Anyway this reminded me to see if I could get together a list. I just sat down and jotted about 50 albums, and am going to scan my iTunes quick to see if I'm forgetting anything embarrassing. Then I'm voting, even if I have to write in half my picks. (I'm going to keep track, but honestly a lot of my picks will come from their early era and be albums they championed then. So I'd guess at least they would be in there.)

I'm not overly familiar with Pitchfork, so I just assumed maybe they didn't review my dinosaur legacy bands. But, I was surprised to see that they actually reviewed Ghost - Infestissumam, my #1 pick, and not glowingly at all either. Once I saw that the majority of my choices didn't populate, I decided to include a Bon Jovi and Toby Keith album just for fun. I imagine some skinny jeans wearing intern spit out his IPA when he sees a pick for those guys.

A music publishing firm, Primary Wave, has bought almost all of three of Prince's siblings' inheritance of his estate, now controlling 50% of his estate. Three other siblings retained their shares. The entire process has been held up because Prince lacked any estate planning and the IRS had to try to determine the value (and tax bill) of his estate.

You can certainly tell who has had significant cosmetic surgery...
Also, Dan Cortese belongs in the '90s thread, because his "then" pic is the most 90s looking thing I've ever seen in my life.

Happy 40th MTV! Thanks for 12 years of music.
On another note, I saw McDonald's is pairing up with an artist called Saweetie. Having no clue who she is, I ran to The Google and saw she has a hit called Best Friend. After seeing the lyrics, I'll admit I'm a little surprised the fast food giant got in bed with her.
