Curiously, the most swelteringly summery record in my book doesn't have summer in the title. It's The Kinks' "Sunny Afternoon", which is a great song to play on piano in a band.
"In the summertime..."

I believe this site posts a variation of this list every year, but here are the Top 40 Rock Songs about summer according to Ultimate Classic Rock ultimateclassicrock.com/summer-forrock-songs/The Beach Boys are presented by three songs. Surprisingly, Meatloaf's You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth (Hot Summer Night) was not on the list. That song was actually voted as the #1 Summertime rock song on that site a few years ago. And, come on, you're gonna include Chic, but not Jimmy Buffett.

Back in early June my work took me within a few blocks of Ocean City Boardwalk (NJ). I had never been, so I went down and saw the sights. I also felt the sudden urge to put on Born To Run. I ended up listening to it on repeat that day and have since listened to it at least a half dozen times. It really struck me how perfectly it fit the day...how "summer-y" it felt. Summer had arrived. While it's not my favorite Bruce album (by quite a ways), I suspect it'll be one I reach for during the summer months more often moving forward. Does it feel like a summer album to you guys, too? As for the album, itself, I think what holds it back in my rankings is that it only has 8 tracks and I'm inclined to skip the last two (sorry, kds, IIRC you're a big "Jungleland" fan). Anyway, some of his best material is on this album, no doubt.

Probably Thunder Raod too. You're right. Jungleland's my favorite song off the album, and possibly favorite Bruce song. But, for some reason, I tend to associate it with cooler weather.

There are two Bruce Springsteen songs that I really associate with summer. bellbottoms listed one above with "Pink Cadillac". There is a later Bruce song, "Girls In Their Summer Clothes" which gives me a summer feeling, kind of a melancholy one, but I get a lot of visuals when I listen to the song.

Another Springsteen "summer song" in my mind is one from his excellent 2019 album Western Stars, "Sleepy Joe's Cafe."

Yes, that's ^ a good one! Now I'm stuck on Bruce Springsteen summer songs. Another two come to mind - "Hungry Heart" and "I'm On Fire" (great summer nighttime atmosphere). Somewhere there's a Summer Songs From The Boss comp to be made (cough)...

I had the thought that maybe Bruce's summer-y songs were generally more 'hot summer night' than 'sunny summer day', but I do associate some of it, particularly some of his earlier stuff, with the Asbury Park boardwalk/beach scene.

Across the pond, I've always associated The Who's Quadrophenia with summer, since much of the story takes place at Brighton Beach. Sea and Sand and Bell Boy in particular.
In fact, when I was single and would drive solo to meet my folks in Ocean City, Quadrophenia became a go to album for the three hour drive.
