The hatred directed at Stamos makes no sense to me ... except as some pathetic jealousy. Successful, handsome TV star able to live his hobbyist-musicianship dreams with his favorite band (whom he also takes every opportunity to promote)? Yeah, what a jerk, how dare he...

Successful, handsome TV star able to live his hobbyist-musicianship dreams with his favorite band (whom he also takes every opportunity to promote)? Yeah, what a jerk, how dare he... I think among BB fans, it's partially because Stamos seems to be good buddies with one Michael Love. And, of course, that's a "no no" among some BB fans. But, at his best, John Stamos helped expose The Beach Boys to a new generation of fans. At his worst, he's kind of a later day Beach Boys mascot. I don't have any issues with him.

And by the way, I do see that it's funny, maybe even a little sad, how Mike promotes Stamos (or ol' Sugar Ray) as the young, hip stars of the moment with whom the Beach Boys associate. Of course Mike is out of touch.
But even so. It's just not anything close to warranting actual hatred of Stamos. I'd love to have a couple drinks with him and ask him questions about his experiences with the band.

The Mark McGrath thing was extremely puzzling. At least Stamos has a history there. You know how some BB fans are. Anyone who leans a bit towards team Mike is vilified. Brianistas have pretty much accused Jeff Foskett of treason for joining Mike's band five years ago.

One thing I'll say for Sugar Ray--and sorry, Mark, you're Sugar Ray to me, just like Darius Rucker will only ever be Hootie--is that I saw him back around 1998 or 99 on some rock and roll trivia show, and then another time around that era just being interviewed, and he really was a rock geek. And specifically, a Beach Boys geek. He answered something where the answer was "Time to Get Alone" or Friends or something. So while musically it doesn't make sense and timing-wise it really didn't, he wasn't entirely random.

Now that you mention it, I think I remember that it was Rock and Roll Jeopardy, which ran on Vh1 for a little while. I remember being amazed that somebody who did such bad music has so much knowledge of great music.

This is something only a diehard Beach Boys fan can might appreciate. Despite not being a SpongeBob fan, I watched the whole video. It starts out slow but some of the mid-late '60s albums are good and 15 Big Ones - SIP are spot on.

That's too good. I laughed out loud at the LA Light Album part EDIT: Woops, referring to B.E.'s Spongebob Beach Boys albums post.

I'm posting this because it's the first complete video of 'Our Team' I've come across.

I'm posting this because it's the first complete video of 'Our Team' I've come across. Whoa, good find! The complete version has been off YouTube for a long time. The picture quality is still blurry but the sound appears to be clearer. The "Mike Come Back To L.A." segment continues to be at the top of my list of all-time favorite BB videos. I love seeing the personality and charisma of Brian Wilson that has rarely been seen or videotaped, especially in a studio setting. I hope that some day the original tape is found (?) and released in high quality. It has historical value; it was the last "project" of the five original Beach Boys.

Thanks for sharing--and thanks to the person who posted the video, because based on the description s/he put some work into getting it as good as it is (imperfect though it still is).

Memorial Day weekend is usually the unofficial "breakout" of summer music AND Beach Boys' music (except for us fans who listen to it all year long), and this was the group performing four Memorial Day's ago. Wishing good health to Jeff Foskett:
