This one is timely, as last night I finally ripped the unreleased tracks (and a few other goodies) from the Sail On Sailor box to my laptop for more convenient listening.

I'm not too familiar with many of these so for now I've voted for "Big Sur", "H.E.L.P.", "4th Of July", "Sound Of Free", "Lady" and "Carry Me Home".

This batch is interesting to me in terms of how unfinished the material is. And what's more, particularly with respect to Dennis's material, but also some of Brian's, we get away from some more traditional songwriting and into more experimental (as compared to standard pop), more instrumental music.

I am posting my picks in the order they appear on the list. I should've digested all of these songs by now but I haven't, so I don't feel qualified to rank them...yet.
1. Seasons In The Sun - It's a great song and I'm glad the group attempted it even though the final results could've been better. The lyrics are eerily relevant to the Beach Boys' story.
2. Sweet And Bitter - Good song with a rare prominent acoustic guitar. I like the keyboard, too.
3. My Solution - Brian didn't nail it (he would've a couple years' earlier) but I give him credit for trying. There's nothing quite like it.
4. 4th Of July - Dennis just had a way...Carl's vocal is touching. Carl always did well with Dennis's songs.
5. Lady - A personal favorite. I think it's one of Dennis's best songs. And nobody heard it.
6. (Wouldn't It Be Nice) To Live Again - Another DW classic...that nobody heard. But this was Dennis's fault.
7. It's A New Day - I apologize for sounding like a broken record but how could this stuff go unreleased. There's really no excuse for it. WHAT was going on with this band?
8. Medley: All Of My Love/Ecology - This one sounds like some of Dennis's later material, almost Pacific Ocean Blue-like in places. It also sounds like something Brian would've come up with, too. And that's a compliment.
9. We Got Love - I always kinda liked this song. I gladly would've taken it over "Leaving This Town", or just add it to Holland anyway (I don't know if it would've fit timewise)
10. Out In The Country - A cool, little country song. I wish they would've finished it. It would've fit somewhere don't ya think? Maybe even Surf's Up.
- I wish Dennis Wilson would've released a solo album during the 1970-73 period. I think it could've been the best of all The Beach Boys' solo albums. He was so prolific during this time.
- Some of these songs could've used just a little more time, effort, and recording to reach their potential. It's frustrating in places. - I'm really fascinated by - and enjoy - "Daddy Dear", but I couldn't bring myself to vote for it. It's more a snippet.
- Did anybody notice how many of these song titles - Lady, Wouldn't It Ne Nice, All Of My Love, Out In The Country, Little Child, I Need Your Love, others(?) - are shared by other non-Beach Boys popular songs.

I haven't voted yet on these--which reminds me, I need to!--but I can say pretty confidently that "Lady" will make my list. ("Sound of Free," I can say pretty confidently will not.)

I guess you are entitled to your opinion .... I voted early, but haven't listed my choices yet. I was busier today than I had planned on being, so maybe I will Tomorrow. I was going to work from home this morning, then realized I left my charging cord at work.

What a revelation Feel Flows was to me. It began my obsession with the music of Dennis Wilson. After Pet Sounds, these tracks, most of which are on Feel Flows, are my most listened to and adored Beach Boys releases.
1. "Medley: All Of My Love/Ecology" - It takes you on a journey. The melodies and instrumentation are magnificent. Reminds me a bit of "River Song". 2. "Before" - Crank this song, roll down the windows and rock out. I wish there were more, but what is there is perfection.
3. "Lady" - Lush, warm and one of Dennis' best vocals. Meant to be heard on vinyl. 4. "Sound Of Free" - Loved it so much I had to buy the 45 after I heard it on Feel Flows. Then I had to buy another to actually play, since the first one was so expensive. Love the trippy lyrics, guitar lead and Dennis' vocals. 5. "Awake" - A beautiful lullaby. A gem of a song.
6. "(Wouldn't It Be Nice To) Live Again" - Oh those lyrics, the pain in Dennis' voice and the soaring melodies. Gives me all the feels.
7. "Barbara" - As a chick, I can't imagine how magnificent it would be to have a long like this written about you. Again, Dennis's piano melodies are perfection. 8. "Behold The Night" - Another beautiful combination of vocals, instrumentation, melody, and time changes. Dennis' music has an epic sound to it. Another song that takes you on an adventure.
9. "Big Sur" - Peaceful and sweet - roll your top down and drive down highway 101. It makes you feel like you can taste the fresh air.
10. "Out In The Country" - So much potential. So many demos. Love version 2 with the organ. "I've been livin' in the countryside", sticks in your head.

I'll just say it right now, I feel very unsatisfied with my list. But no matter how I try to rearrange it, reconfigure it, rethink it, I remain very unsatisfied with my list.
The problem, it seems to me, is that there are few-to-no masterpieces here, so I didn't start from a place of strength. There's no cornerstone here. There are nice recordings of OK songs, and there are interesting starts to what might have been wonderful songs (but we just don't know). I think "Lady" is probably the surest thing here.
Where I stand now is as follows. But forget "if you asked me tomorrow, my list would change": if you asked me right now, right as you're reading this, my list would change. Presented I think in order of appearance among the options (and certainly not representing my rankings):
1. Big Sur 2. Lady 3. Wouldn't It Be Nice (To Live Again) 4. Awake 5. Behold the Night 6. Won't You Tell Me 7. Hard Times 8. Oh Sweet Something 9. Rooftop Harry 10. Body Talk (Grease Job)
I can't really justify leaving off We Got Love, It's A New Day, All Of My Love/Ecology, or Sweet & Bitter for these songs ... but I can't really justify including them at the expense of others, either.

Poops/Hubba HubbaI love this article and the album that never was so much, the proposed cover is my Hoffman avatar. What a great album this would have been… Thanks for the link, carllove. I thought I would give Hubba Hubba a shot. I used mostly Feel Flows' songs. With the exception of "Old Movie (Cuddle Up)", I didn't use any songs that appeared on Beach Boys' albums. I didn't want to mess with history too much. Also, I did some editing/slicing/cutting, especially on some of the intros and studio chatter. It made for less distractions and a better flow (unless you like those touches ). Here's what I came up with:
Dennis Wilson - Hubba Hubba (1971)
Side 1
1. Lady 2. Sound Of Free 3. I'm Goin' Your Way 4. Before 5. Barbara 6. Old Movie (Cuddle Up)
Side 2 1. Behold The Night 2. Hawaiian Dream 3. Medley - All Of My Love/Ecology 4. (Wouldn't It Be Nice) To Live Again (4:41 version)
5. It's A New Day

I like your version better than the Shindig one. Love starting the album with “Lady”.

My top 10:
1. (Wouldn't It Be Nice To) Live Again 2. Carry Me Home 3. Lady (Fallin' In Love) 4. Big Sur 5. Jumpin' Jack Flash (Live) 6. Barbara 7. Out in the Country 8. Behold the Night 9. Awake 10. The Road Not Taken
I'm a little surprised I'm the only one to vote for "The Road Not Taken". There wasn't much new on Sail On, Sailor and so it was a highlight for me. I nearly went for "Won't You Tell Me" based entirely on the Brian-sung demo and I also seriously considered "I've Got A Friend" based on the studio backing track and the live version that floats around. And I probably should have included "My Solution", but it's an easier one to omit, I suppose. If that makes any sense.
