I love the cool mornings. It’s currently 56 degrees, just a little cooler than yesterday morning. I brought a jacket to work with me yesterday, but never wore it. Our high today will be around 81 and sunny. The last several days on the local news, they keep repeating how gorgeous it is outside. It truly is. I kept going outside and sitting on our upper deck yesterday evening. Another open your auto sun roof, kind of day!

It's a cool--not even 70 yet today, though we are supposed to get there--day that even included the first measurable rainfall in probably three weeks, lasting much of the morning. It's got me thinking that some Oktoberfest or red wine is on the menu for tonight and the weekend. I need to see what Oktoberfests are in stock, as I don't have anything on hand.
I think I'll be making soup tomorrow, too. Yes, we are definitely getting toward fall, even though we're not quite there yet. And that's fine. This in-between weather is about as nice as it gets.
My "summer" vacation begins two weeks from today, the very end of September into early October. I'm hoping for moderate autumnal weather. By then, I'm afraid, summer will be over ... but hopefully winter will still be far off!

I'm enjoying Land Sharks tonight. It got to almost 80 while I was grilling dinner. Sunset has seen the temps go down to 65. So, I relented and got a hoodie out of the closet as I sit outside, listening to my summer mix.
Next weekend will likely see some Marzens.

I wound up playing my summer music one last time on the deck last night. It was a gray day, that saw rain off and on. Once the showers stopped yesterday evening, it turned into a pleasant night.

We're in a real sweet spot right now: daytime highs are in the 70 (with some in the 80s coming up), but nights are cooling off to the 55-60 range. For me, this is just about as good as it gets.

So, yesterday and today have seen perfect late summer weather. Sunny, mid 70s, no humidity, cooling at night. Tomorrow and Thursday should be the same.
But, on Friday night, the first day of Fall no less, rain is moving in, almost like the rain that comes in at the end of Summer's Gone, we're getting rain that looks like will stick around all day Sat and possibly Sunday. I know Mother Nature cares not for my work schedule, but man, that stinks.

We're looking at a weekend of rain, too. I can't complain, since the entire state is in a drought, much of it severe or extreme. So, it'll just have to be an indoors-weekend (if the forecast comes true).
On another odd note for "summer" of 2023: this morning I saw the first house of the season decorated with Christmas lights and decorations. Yep, September 20, three days before autumn even begins, somebody decided 'tis the season...

We definitely need some rain too, but of course, I'd prefer it during the five days a week I'm bound to a desk. But, what can you do? At least I have my grill canopy.

Today is the final full day of the summer of 2023.
It was a summer that looked at first like it might be spoiled by that Canadian smoke. But, I think we only had a total of five or six days with dangerous air quality.
It was actually relatively mild for most of the summer.
Summer typically flies by, although this summer didn't feel like it went by at warp speed.
We did our usual summer stuff. Three Ocean City trips. Plus, plenty of time outside. I didnt stick to my beer every other weekend thing...at all. But, I still mostly maintained my weight.
For the third time in the last four years, I attended zero concerts. But, my wife and I had steamed crabs for the first time since 2020.
As always, I'm sad to see another summer fade into the rearview, but I go greatly enjoy the festive fall / early winter months.

Yes, I suppose this thread is officially over soon!
We had worse air than did you, but it definitely was better the second half of the season than the first. June was pretty rotten in that regard. We also had hotter-than-average temps and way, way less rain than average, so our farmers (not to mention just homeowners, with their lawns) are not happy people.
While it's still in the mid 80s right now, it looks like we'll be tapering into the 70s for daily highs the next 10 days or so, and once we're into October that seems unlikely to change, at least for the better...
But as someone who LOVES highs in the 70s, 60s, and frankly even 50s, I don't mind it. So, hey, bring on the fall! Long may it last.

Same here with poor air quality for most of the early summer. I know I went through tissues far more than usual. It was a pretty pleasant summer overall, with not terrible humidity and few days over 90. It also looks like mid to uppers 70s will be firmly in place after this weekend. Unfortunately, no rain in sight. It's been about three weeks since I last mowed. There are some long sections, but I'm afraid whatever I cut will be killed. It's become a bit of a chore to water the plants in the landscaping to try and keep them alive. I suppose it'll become a futile effort as we head into October, and I'll have to prune most of them anyway. Every year I keep track of when we first turn on the heat (of course at my parents' house before last year) and it always seems to be within a few days of October 15th. We'll see if that holds true this year.

Yeah, overall I can't complain about the Summer of 2023's weather. As I recall, the Big Three holidays - Memorial Day, 4th Of July, and Labor Day were pleasant (no rain) so you could have family picnics. 4th Of July might've very hot and humid. We did have that streak of days over 90 degrees, but that's every summer. And, one thing I was happy about was that (where I live anyway) we didn't have that two or three consecutive weeks of no rain which just obliterates the grass and the plants/flowers. Yes, I was outside plenty after work watering, but it wasn't a lost cause like some years where everything turns brown and crisp.
I suppose I'm ready for fall. I can turn the central air off and get that electric bill in check! It was doubled for me in July and August. I'm already half-way through with my leaf raking, but I think I have a good month and a half left for mowing the lawn. I started cutting back the perennials and annuals, and will probably do a little - just a little - shrub trimming. So, bring on the cooler weather. The Christmas music is all primed!

And, one thing I was happy about was that (where I live anyway) we didn't have that two or three consecutive weeks of no rain which just obliterates the grass and the plants/flowers. I envy you that. We have had almost nothing but streaks of not two or three, but three or four, or five, weeks without rain. I could be off by one or maybe two, but I'm pretty sure I've mowed my lawn 4-5 times all year, total. In a normal year, that's once a week beginning in late April or early May and running through roughly now. Even when it has rained, it has rarely been much. I'm not used to this, it's not like I live in Nevada or California or something. We usually have plenty of rain here. The past few years have been crazy.

I somehow neglected that this summer has seen one of the Orioles' best seasons of my lifetime. They took over first place in mid to late July, and as of this writing, have a two game lead over Tampa Bay as they play Game 153. They clinched a postseason berth, their first in seven years, this past Sunday.
There really have not been many summers in my life that featured meaningful baseball (by my count, this is the 12th time in the 33 seasons I've followed the Orioles since getting into them in 1991).

So, apparently today was the last day of summer? Fall starts tomorrow?
I swear I saw something that said Fall 2023 begins Sept 22. Oh well, it feels like Fall.
