Maybe one day, we'll have a new album to add to this list, but at this point, I'd actually be quite surprised to see anything new from Mike, Brian, or Al. I saw something about a new Mike album over at EHF. I think some fans buying tickets to M&B reported advertisements for an upcoming album to be included with the concert tickets.

Maybe Al would do another live album with his familiy and friends band. That's the one that seems most likely to me, in that it doesn't require writing new music and it's relatively easy to put together. I could also see any of those guys releasing new singles, maybe (and especially Mike and Al). I also would not be surprised to see more albums from Brian, but more on the archival side of things...and those possibly after he's gone. (And of course ongoing Beach Boys archival releases.) But new studio solo albums, agree: I think we're done.

If that's true, it would have to be Mike who releases an album...the guy whose music is the least interesting. I wonder what percentage of it will be rerecordings of things he's already done...

There's plenty of live shows from the 2000s, when he was at the top of his game as a live act, that could be released. Maybe a live version of Smile, for example.

While I'm not a big fan of either - but many fans are - I always thought it would be a good idea to release a 2CD set of Pet Sounds Live (CD1) and Brian Wilson Presents Smile Live (CD2). A package like that would include, arguably, the greatest music of the pop/rock era performed by the songwriter himself. While I'm still unsure how I would proceed, you could start CD 1 with a few classic Beach Boys' songs leading into Pet Sounds, and maybe tack a few more on at the end of CD2 as encores. Or not. I was just thinking of filling out the CDs, but you would sacrifice some artistic merit. And, I realize there is duplication with the original Pet Sounds Live and the live BWPS from Beautiful Dreamer. Maybe they could sprinkle in a few alternate takes if they are not necessarily inferior.

Maybe they could sprinkle in a few alternate takes if they are not necessarily inferior. In the end, I think that is more or less what Brian Wilson's solo career will be remembered for: first, just his touring at all; and second, his touring of those two albums in particular. They were his masterpieces, and they were sometimes discussed as being too hard to perform live with a rock band. Plus, touring full albums wasn't unprecedented, but it was relativley rare. Wilson put together a band that was shockingly good and performed them with mostly natural instruments, bringing along the Stockholm Strings 'n' Horns to flesh out the already lush sounds of his own band. And these were also (according to the narrative) the albums that broke him, adding a real triumphant spirit to it all. On the BWPS shows, he actually seemed to enjoy himself on stage. Yes, he performed some of his other albums in full. Yes, TLOS was a real achievement for a legacy artist. But I'd say it's the touring of those classic albums that is the core of his solo career.

Don't get me wrong, I'd buy this just to get an audio companion to the live version of Smile from the Beautiful Dreamer release, but I'd prefer full shows mainly because of some of the deep tracks that Brian was playing at that time like Good Timin, Meant for You, Friends (both of which did get released on a Japanese version of PS Live), Keep an Eye on Summer, Good to My Baby, Drive In, etc

The one thing I would like to have on cd is a comp of the solo tracks Brian performed on his tours - Smile doesn't count. True solo tracks? There weren't many, other than the TLOS tour. Let it Shine, Lay Down Burden, Melt Away, Your Imagination, She Says That She Needs Me, South American, Desert Drive...were there others?

Let it Shine, Lay Down Burden, Melt Away, Your Imagination, She Says That She Needs Me, South American, Desert Drive...were there others? As kds posted above, and as you posted above, yes, it would be nice to assemble some of the more obscure or deeper tracks on a live CD, and certainly Brian's solo songs would fall into that category. That market/audience would be rather limited I think. You're back to appealing to the diehard base - not that there's anything wrong with that. We're talking about Brian Wilson here, and he will ALWAYS have different fan bases that are interested in some aspect of his career. Brian's solo recording career encompassed a quarter of a century, and while it was a commercial failure, it will always be considered at least intriguing, and a "deeper tracks" CD will always be welcomed or appealing by some segment, if not for historical purposes.
The reason I suggested or proposed the 2CD package above is because i think it would good to have the ultimate live document available, or just...out there... prominently. Yes, I suppose Live At The Roxy and Pet Sounds Live and Beautiful Dreamer and Brian Wilson & Friends will always be available somewhere, but, obviously, those are just parts or segments of Brian's solo live career. Why not put it all together in one place? OK, my proposed live CD doesn't include the deeper/obscure cuts, but it certainly contains "the best" of Brian's Beach Boys' catalogue and his best live work. I didn't time it out, but there might still be space for another 3-4 songs. I'm not a fan of the live Brian Wilson, but, that being said, it would be hard to find a better live CD out there.

Let it Shine, Lay Down Burden, Melt Away, Your Imagination, She Says That She Needs Me, South American, Desert Drive...were there others? There are several dozen more. To be fair, several of these--SEVERAL, not most--were only performed once or twice. But many of these were performed dozens and dozens of times. Love & Mercy, Night Time, I Sleep Alone, The Spirit of Rock and Roll, Water Builds Up, Let's Go To Heaven In My Car. This Isn't Love, The Right Time, I'm Broke. Gettin In Over My Head, City Blues, Soul Searchin, How Could We Still Be Dancin, Make a Wish. Christmassy, What I Really Want For Christmas. Walking Down the Path of Life. That Lucky Old Sun, Morning Beat, Forever She'll Be My Surfer Girl, Midnight's Another Day, Mexican Girl, Southern California, Oxygen to the Brain, Good Kind of Love, Going Home, Live Let Live. The entire Gershwin album (covers). One Kind of Love, Sail Away, The Right Time, Half Moon Bay, Runaway Dancer, Saturday Night on Hollywood Boulevard, This Beautiful Day, The Last Song

Not a fan of the live Brian Wilson? I'm shocked. And stunned. Care to expound upon that statement a bit more?
