It was just announced that the Giants fired Pat Shurmur and the Cowboys will not be renewing Jason Garrett's contract. That means the Eagles' Doug Pederson is the only Head Coach from the NFC East to NOT be fired this year!

Cleveland will also be looking for a new HC. I heard a rumor they're eyeing Josh McDaniels, which could be a very Cleveland Browns thing to do. I also heard - and this might interest Kapitan - that Cleveland might be looking at Minnesota's offensive coordinator, Kevin Stefanski. The local paper is indeed reporting that Cleveland has formally requested permission to talk to Stefanski. The same story says Carolina might be interested.

The Browns intend to hire a coach before hiring a GM so the coach can have input into the GM hiring, and then both will report to ownership as equals.
This is purportedly in the interest of internal alignment, but seems like the worst possible way to get there! It’s somewhere between backwards from the traditional model (so insurrection) and redundant (so a power struggle).

It'll be a rough game in New Orleans tomorrow for the Vikings. We're down two of our top cornerbacks, with Mike Hughes (14 games played, 44 tackles, an interception, a few forced fumbles) and Mackensie Alexander (13 games played, 41 tackles, an interception). Especially considering how awful our alleged #1 cornerback, Xavier Rhodes, has been all year, that's a huge blow.
Dalvin Cook claims to be at full strength, but that seems hard to believe considering the past few weeks. I don't know about Alexander Mattison, but we could really use him, too.

I think the two better teams - Houston and Tennessee - won yesterday. One team, Buffalo, still needs to grow a little bit, while the other losing team, New England, is aging and needs some recharging.
The Saints/Vikings matchup is intriguing. Drew Brees doesn't have too many more opportunities left to win another Super Bowl, but I think there is just as much pressure on Kirk Cousins. He has more to prove. Can he win the big game(s), get to a Super Bowl. That's why the Vikings paid him the big bucks. Dalvin Cook needs to have a Dalvin Cook-like game, too.
The Eagles play the later game today. The Eagles are playing with house money - and practice squad players! The Eagles really aren't that good, barely a .500 team. They could barely beat the Redskins and Giants to get to the playoffs. I think they have a chance to win because Seattle isn't that good either.

One unfortunate Thielen fumble aside the Vikings look pretty good early—especially Cook and Mattison. Great having them back.

Congratulations to the Vikings. I was pulling for them. Kirk Cousins really came through today. For a minute I thought the winning TD pass might be overturned for offensive pass interference. New Orleans always seems to be involved in officiating controversies.

It certainly wasn't a comfortable, easy win! But a win nonetheless. The Vikings live to see another day.

As long as they stay healthy (especially Cousins, Cook, Thielen, and Diggs), I like their chances no matter who they play.

As long as they stay healthy (especially Cousins, Cook, Thielen, and Diggs), I like their chances no matter who they play. It's the defense, and especially the secondary, I'm worried about. We've got a few key CBs banged up and guys like Anthony Barr who always seem to be on the edge of injured. But certainly, if our two top RBs are healthy and Thielen is healthy, that matters most.
I'm less convinced a healthy Diggs matters. Very talented and capable of big plays, he's also regularly trouble on the sidelines and a notorious dropper.

New Orleans is a juggernaut, and while the Vikings didn't completely shut them down, they STOPPED them when it counted - big time. I think Zimmer will have the defense ready.
Diggs, I think is very, very good. And because of him, teams can't double Thielen. There's not many tandems better than those two. But, yes, they have to keep Diggs calm and under control.

Going into the playoffs, I really thought that the Saints were the NFC's best team. So, I wouldn't be shocked at all to see Minnesota go into San Francisco and in this weekend.
The only negative is "YOU LIKE THAT!!!!" is back.

Nothing would surprise me: not a 25-point win or 25-point loss. I’m still mostly nervous about the injuries to the secondary.
