Iron Maiden's Bruce Dickinson announced today that he'll release his 7th solo album, his first since 2005, in early 2024.
The album - The Mandrake Project - will be promoted with shows in Mexico and Brazil in April 2024.
I'm hoping that this development won't prevent Iron Maiden from bringing their Future Past Tour to the States, which saw them playing some rarities from the often overlooked 1986 Somewhere in Time album.

MGMT, the indie psych/synth rock band, announced their first album in about five years: Loss of Life is set for a February 2024 release. It was produced by Patrick Wimberly (the previous MGMT album as well as Solange, Beyonce, Dev Hynes, and others) and longtime producer/collaborator Dave Fridmann (the Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev, and many others). They released a surprisingly low-key, laid-back lead single, "Mother Nature."

Multiple sources have reported that David Gilmour will be releasing a new studio album in 2024.
That would put him on a new album every 9 years cycle. But, I'll glad take another batch of new songs with Gilmour's guitar playing.

A Canadian singer songwriter posted a short cover of Love and Mercy this week which you can find here: www.facebook.com/reel/749166023220747But off the back of that posting, I am prompted to encourage you folks to check out his album (though not a 2024 release) taylorabrahamse.bandcamp.com/album/taylor-abrahamse-deluxe-editionHe is influenced by a lot our favourite artists and since this is my favourite online community for new music discussion (though I admittedly have little time for such things, unfortunately), I'd love to hear thoughts on his work if you are so inclined. -- I recognize we are now almost into 2024, but I have continued to enjoy the new Extreme release as discussed in the appropriate thread. Really hope I get to catch them on tour in the new year.

Yes, should have mentioned that. I heard of Taylor a long time ago when I came across an online cover of Live Let Live and kept have an eye on him since, and of course I had to stand up and take a little more notice when he worked with the Eddie Kramer as you rightly point out.

Looking forward to dropping by here during 2024 to read thoughts on new music from the usual suspects.

New Lemon Twigs song. Might be my favorite of theirs to date, so much so that I now have the urge to go through their catalogue again. I forget the exact quote now, but when they made their first appearance on the Tonight Show, Questlove said they're like a combination of Pet Sounds and Odessey and Oracle (and maybe something else). People scoffed at the notion at the time, but I think it is becoming truer with each release. They are really good. The opening of this one vaguely reminds me of California Girls.

As for Questlove's comment, I'd just add that there is a heavy dose of the Raspberries or something similar to that, some 70s power pop. Hopefully this indicates another new album this year. Last year's, as I was saying recently, was imo the best album of '23 (by a lot). OMG, that harmony vocal part that starts around 2:17, there's the BW...

Yes I can totally hear the Raspberries influence on this one! I also absolutely love The Beach Boys style harmonies like you said, it’s like a perfect combination of The Beach Boys, Beatles and power pop (or as I saw one person describe it, it’s “jangle pop Beach Boys”) Crazy how we’re only a few days into 2024 and I already have a contender for my favorite song of the year haha, the Lemon Twigs continue to blow me away!

OK, so 2024 is going to produce Gruff Rhys, Vampire Weekend, Yard Act, MGMT, and probably Lemon Twigs albums. And the Lemon Twigs' first song is definitely a keeper! That's a good start, anyway.

MGMT released their first single of 2024, and third from their upcoming album, Loss of Life. It's mellower than the two previous ones, and an entirely different style. It's "Nothing to Declare," and I like it.

I believe SNL got that name from a Sony Producer/A&R man, who happens to be named Bruce Dickinson, who is credited as producer on a BOC compilation that was released right before that famous sketch aired.
