I'm going to beat this dead horse for just one more post...I promise.
With the lyrics on "Cabinessence" - singing about cabins and lighting the lamp and finding a meadow and homes on the range - well, what better songs (other than SMiLE ones) to surround "Cabinessence" than "Time To Get Alone", "The Nearest Faraway Place", "Cotton Fields", "Bluebirds Over The Mountain", and, yes, even "I Can Hear Music" (the sound of the city seems so far away"). Come on, now!

I love both “Cabinessence”and 20/20, but I did not vote for “Cabinessence”. I don’t like it as a closer. Not sure what song I would pick from that album to be a closer though.

Yes, SJS, there's some overlap regarding lyrical content/themes, but those tracks don't sound like they belong together as much as most listeners would like.

I don't think there's an obvious closer. And I think they ran into the problem of the Smile material not really working alongside the other tracks, so they just tacked them on at the end. Depending on how the album was re-sequenced, maybe "I Went to Sleep" could have worked? Or maybe you go with something grander, like, "Be With Me"? I also really like the idea of incorporating/closing the album with "Old Folks At Home"/"Ol' Man River", but that wasn't on the album, obviously.

20/20 still feels to me like a grab bag. Much of it is very high quality, but it doesn't feel like an album the way Friends or Wild Honey dew...or do. 20/20 is the Still Cruisin' of the 60's.
