There is a YouTuber who is recreating or putting alternate Beach Boys' vocals on instrumental tracks. So far, it appears only Brian's voice/vocal has been attempted. Does anybody know more about this? Here are some videos from the YouTube channel:

They've been discussing this at EH. I find it rather creepy, scary even. Where will AI lead next? It's all a little frightening.

Here's another one. I gotta admit this is fascinating. If this technology is perfected, the possibilities are endless. You can use any voice/vocal on any song!

Fascinating, yes. But terrifying. Think about the news, for example. "Did you see/hear what the president said!" Or worse, "did you see/hear what Vladimir Putin said!?"
On a less potentially world-ending note, but still a big deal, imagine the legality of such things. Who owns and profits from things nobody ever actually performed?
Or for that matter, the increasing irrelevance of the artists. Is an artist great if s/he doesn't actually have to perform anything? We've had debates about things like autotune, or about making increasingly complicated comp takes (which is selecting the best bits and pieces of numerous takes to make what sounds like one great performance that never actually happened), as made possible with digital recording and editing. What about this, where the artist doesn't have to be present or do anything at all?
However, it is an amazing thought in terms of things like this, the whole "I wish there had been a Brian/Carl lead vocal on such-and-such." Sure, it is interesting. Remarkable technology. But very complicated and quite scary.

Yes, the legal ramifications are staggering to think about. What can you and/or can't you do. Old laws will have to be revisited and new ones written. The attorneys will have a field day.

By the way, I hadn't noticed previously but yesterday Pitchfork had a story about this topic (the more generic aspect of the legalities, copyrights, etc., not specifically the Beach Boys ones posted here). The lede is: "The United States Copyright Office recently issued new guidelines regarding copyright applications for works created with artificial intelligence tools. The new rules recognize that work made with both AI input and human creation can be eligible for copyright protection, but any part of it that is entirely made by AI is not eligible. Which is to say, copyright protections can extend only to work that is attributable to human authorship." It goes on to discuss nuances and opinions on other aspects of the topic. (For example, crediting the material AI uses to learn before it creates something.)

Here's another one:
Just a thought, but wouldn't it be cool to put Brian's or the other Beach Boys' voices on some of the instrumental tracks like "Sherry She Needs Me" and some of the SMiLE tracks. Maybe they could try Carl or Dennis's voice on "Sail On, Sailor". The possibilities are endless.
I apologize for going off the Beach Boys' topic (I can't help myself ), but I would love to hear Jim Morrison's voice put on some of the songs of the two post-Morrison Doors' albums, Other Voices and Full Circle.

I keep reading the subject as "Al project". Will we ever get a sequel to Postcard from California? Maybe, if created using Ai.

Will we ever get a sequel to Postcard from California? Are you kidding? We get them all the time: he's reissued it like 2-3 times already! ( New music? No, probably not!)

I finally listened to these. It’s pretty crazy (and, yes, disturbing) how real some of them sound. To me, the Beach Boys tracks feel wrong, but the covers are fun. While I still have mixed feelings, I can see the potential for harmless fun in hearing famous singers “sing” others’ popular songs. It’s a very tricky situation. Probably one not worth the trouble, but there’s no stopping technology from advancing. I appreciate that this YouTuber is labeling each video as ‘AI’ in the title, but I can see this spinning out of control real quickly.
EDIT: The YouTuber is a longtime poster on SSMB. I just read the thread over there where he explains the process. It’s pretty interesting. I had thought “My Diane” was less convincing…well, that was model 1.0. And “All I Wanna Do”, for instance, was model 2.0 (which was based more on ‘62-65 Brian).

You may have seen this, as it was apparently posted a week or so ago, but I just saw in Ultimate Classic Rock that Mike LeRoy created an AI Beach Boys Smile, adding the new "vintage" vocals to those tracks previously lacking them.

That's not bad. I enjoyed it. Most of the videos I posted above from the guy's YouTube site have been deleted. This AI...experiment...has a lot of things to work out.

How about the Beatles doing "God Only Knows"?
Or Paul McCartney singing "Caroline No"?

I really get a kick out of this AI stuff. I don't know where it's headed - if anywhere (wait 'til the legalities start to surface) - but, yeah, I enjoy it.
I'm still kicking myself that I didn't download the "Guess I'm Dumb" video and extract the audio. I planned to use that Brian lead vocal version on my alternate The Beach Boys Today! album. Now it's gone.

I wouldn't worry, it'll most likely resurface. Plus, it's obviously getting easier to do considering how many of these are popping up, and how quickly. So even if that one is gone, I'd bet on another showing up...
