Not expecting much; just more talk about how Brian's life was total hell until the angel Melinda rescued him from the clutches of evil Landy.

Seems like Hollywood would love it. I may have said this before, but does anyone else find it odd that the title for the new doc comes from a Carl song that Brian had little to no involvement in?

Yes, but I'm still trying to figure out the purpose of this documentary in the first place. We got I Just Wasn't Made For These Times, Brian Wilson On Tour, parts of docs like Beautiful Dreamer and Brian Wilson & Friends, the Love And Mercy movie (the ending anyway), and various interviews - all basically showing/making the same points. Check out that short clip I posted above and tell me you haven't heard/seen this before. Oh well...

I think it's a combination of
a) filmmakers thinking the others left something unfinished (which is true), thinking, "that was great, but wouldn't it be great if somebody really got the story, really captured the real Brian on film? I bet I could do it!"
as well as
b) there's some market for it, combining hugely familiar music (from Boomers onward) with the human-interest stories of dealing with/overcoming demons, empowerment, celebrity gossip, familial squabbles, drugs, etc.
That clip is a reminder of how long ago some of this was filmed: Nick Walusko in the studio.

I'll admit that I have a bad attitude about this project, and I better change it so I don't alienate everybody on the board. I guess I'm just bored. I've seen and read so much; after awhile it's all retread to me. It's to the point where I want to hear something new from Brian - or nothing at all. Same with these special guests' interviews. I'm not holding out much hope for them either. You wanna get my attention? Send somebody into jail and get an interview with Phil Spector (too late for that). Get McCartney to say more than how much he loved Pet Sounds. Call up Bob Dylan; he usually has something interesting to say. And Brian? I don't wanna hear again, and he didn't "get" the question - again - about how he writes songs and/or produces. Get some "truths" from Marilyn, Carnie, and Wendy. Have Van Dyke Parks interview Brian. He's an ass but at least he's interesting. Finally, before he passes away, please(!) have Brian tell us the real story about the SMiLE tracks. Hey, maybe the doc will prove me wrong, but look at that short YouTube clip they put together to promote the doc. Ugh. I can already hear some fans, "Ooh, Brian called Summer Days (And Summer Nights) a rock & roll album..." Oh, wow! OK, rant over. For now.

Aren't most great myths just retellings of the same few stories!?

I get it. I feel that way, too, sometimes. And I continue to think we're not going to get the best (in terms of most interesting, most honest) information until Brian has passed away and others feel more free to be open. Others who depend(ed) on him for their livelihoods and reputations. Unfortunately by then, he'll be in no position to offer comment, context, refutation, or confirmation.
As for calling up Bob Dylan, good luck! (How many real interviews has he given in the past, oh, 30 years?) But your point is taken. Yes, yes, he had "dog ears." Yes, he told classically trained musicians to make it sound like wind chimes. GOK in 20 minutes, maybe 10! H&V in 20 minutes, or was it 10? He put a lot of love in it. Sophistication others didn't have in pop music. Etc. We've heard.

Aren't most great myths just retellings of the same few stories!? More or less. Of course, they change names and places to freshen them up a bit. This one, we just keep getting literally the same story.

I'm sure we'll get some different talking heads this time. Isn't one of the Jonas Brothers on tap to sing the praises? Maybe one or more of the esteemed guests from NPP will chine in too.

That's not really how I heard it. The answer was no.
