The mornings have been cooler lately (which I love), but speaking of summer coming to an end, on my walk this morning I saw a woman in a winter coat and gloves. It was about 60 degrees. LOL. (I was in shorts and a t-shirt...)

Grilled yesterday. Mowed the lawn today. Just another summer weekend in suburbia.
As much as I enjoy heat and humidity, it was nice to mow without having to take multiple water / Gatorade breaks.

This past Tuesday marked the final 8pm EDT sunset in the Baltimore area.
But, my opportunities for natural light during my weekend deck times are dwindling.

This week has been one of the best weather wise I can remember in a long time. Highs in the low 80s, with low humidity and even better, dew points in the 50s. That's all coming to an end as I type as all of those things begin to rise. By Sunday, it's going to be really sticky with chances of rain throughout the day. Looks like it's going to be another week to 10 days of summer before highs in the lows 80s come back in.

It's been really nice, comfortable overnight and in the mornings with a slow warming up into the low 80s most days by late afternoon. For me, it's perfect, and meant I've been upping my walks to about 7.5 miles a day this past week (generally split between a long morning walk and a shorter noon one), up from 6.5 miles a day over the past month (5.8 over the past 6 months, 5.5 over the past year).
Our weather is so often intolerably cold in winter but intolerably hot in summer, so this burst of perfection is much appreciated!

Looking ahead, we're going to have highs in the mid to upper 80s through the end of August. I'll take that, but I'll be honest, I wouldn't mind one more quick dose of humidity before summer's out, preferably next Saturday which will probably be the last time I grill burgers and hot dogs until Memorial Weekend 2023.

KDS has mentioned reduced sunlight, earlier sunsets. I just heard the meteorologist on the radio say that by the end of this week, Minneapolis will have two hours less sunlight than we did on the summer solstice! I've noticed both the later sunrises and earlier sunsets, but hadn't realized they were that dramatic.

Wow, that's more dramatic than us, I think we're currently getting about an hour less, maybe more. We're in the beginning of the end stage now. My wife's been in her classroom preparing it. She has an orientation today. We have back to back nights of back to school events at my son's school tomorrow and Wednesday. My wife asked me last night "Are you sad that summer's over?" I know it's hard not to have that feeling when you operate on a school schedule, but I reminded her that there is still technically a month remaining. We still have one more beach trip on Labor Day weekend. There will still be summer beers to be enjoyed. Speaking of school, we got confirmation that my son's first day of Pre-K4 will be September 2, the Friday before Labor Day. How stupid is that? They go for a half day, then have a long weekend.

Yep, that's one of the advantages and disadvantages of being so far north: we have really long days in summer (and really long nights in winter). On the solstice, our sunrise is about 5:25 and sunset is a little after 9. Right now we're about an hour later and earlier, respectively.

We're not quite at this point yet, but I know once we get into September, not only does the sun go down earlier, but it gets dark faster. For most of the summer, we typically have a good half hour or so of light after the sun sets, but once we get to September, we go from sunset to all the way dark pretty quickly.

I had to go to the liquor store to get some bottles of wine for my son's teachers (back to school shopping sure has changed), and I thought I'd get myself possibly my last round of summer beers (I say this because I'll be out of town Labor Day weekend, and you never know if mid September weather will lend itself to summer beers).
Sure enough, the season beer stock was almost all fall beers. I did happen to see a lonely six pack of Flying Dog Deck Beer, a summer ale I had on vacation several years ago that I remember liking.

Tonight, I grilled burgers and sausages. Thanks to trying to live a more healthy lifestyle, they are the last burgers I'll grill until probably next May.
It was a nice high 80s, sunny day for the last Saturday in August. Since I'll be out of town next weekend, tonight was probably my last weekend deck night with any natural light. The sun went down at 7:44p tonight, and it was pretty much dark by 8:15p or so.

Our sunset is literally right now, 7:58. Not so bad, but it definitely is feeling like fall is coming. I mean, it's still summer temps (80 today), but it's getting toward fall sunlight.
I love it--or would, if only fall were a longer season here. Usually if you blink, you'll miss it, same as spring.
Unfortunately my outdoor time was limited today, as we had showers overnight, in the morning, in the early afternoon, and again now. Granted, we've been desperate for rain, so I won't really complain. But that said, an August Saturday inside isn't quite like one outside.

Fall's like that here too.
I swear growing up, in the 80s and 90s, we had more of an extended Fall than we have now.
The last several years, summer temps give way in early October. But, it doesn't take long into November for the wintery chill to arrive.
This is one of the reasons I do not get the almost cultish infatuation with Fall. The idea of it is nice, but the reality of it is usually pretty underwhelming.

It's a bit ironic that after a summer of dry heat meaning I didn't have to mow the lawn, now after a few weeks with more rain plus sunshine, the grass needs cutting ... but it keeps raining, not giving me the time to do it. After yesterday's showers, I thought maybe today, but it rained again--stormed, really, quite a big t-storm!--overnight, and a little while ago, and is supposed to again a bit later this morning.
So while I finally ought to get out there and do it, my hands are tied!
