Here are Top 25 Zeppelin songs 1. Babe I’m Gonna Leave You 2. Since I’ve Been Loving You 3. Down by the Seaside 4. Stairway to Heaven Whoa, I’m only halfway into my list (and their catalog) but I’ve got 3 of those in my top 4, too! (And I’m not expecting much movement up there.)

I've got a busy morning (and probably afternoon) ahead, but I'll be commenting on these lists and posting my own later. Maybe tonight, maybe tomorrow. Rest assured, the captain is coming! Me too. I hope to finish my list by tmw, and I’ll comment more then.

Once again, this is embarrassing. It transpires I'm familiar with only a handful of Led Zep tracks, so I'll, um, make this a top ten: Everything on Led Zeppelin IV (which I own) "Immigrant Song" "Kashmir" Bubbling under: "Dazed And Confused" "Whole Lotta Love" And that's about it...

This one was difficult! As with the Beatles, Queen, and of course the Beach Boys, it's like choosing between children (and being afraid you might forget one of them, some quiet middle child who sits in the corner).
There's also the elephant in the room that's tough to deal with, as we had with "Bohemian Rhapsody" for Queen: "Stairway to Heaven." It has become such a thing--"No Stairway to Heaven," as the sign said decades ago in Wayne's World, and rightly so!--that it's hard to rate. But I decided that it warrants the top spot anyway.
1. Stairway to Heaven 2. Living Loving Maid (She’s Just a Woman) 3. Rock And Roll 4. Ramble On 5. The Song Remains the Same
6. Over The Hills and Far Away 7. Immigrant Song 8. That’s The Way 9. Thank You 10. Tangerine
11. Celebration Day 12. Gallows Pole 13. Kashmir 14. The Rain Song 15. Good Times, Bad Times
16. Ten Years Gone 17. What Is And What Should Never Be 18. Achilles Last Stand 19. Misty Mountain Hop 20. No Quarter
21. Hots On For Nowhere 22. Hot Dog 23. Going to California 24. Heartbreaker 25. Royal Orleans
26. Since I’ve Been Loving You 27. Dancing Days 28. Candy Store Rock 29. Out On the Tiles 30. In the Light
31. All My Love 32. Communication Breakdown 33. Fool in the Rain 34. Down By the Seaside 35. The Ocean
36. Carouselambra 37. Houses of the Holy 38. South Bound Suarez 39. Wearing and Tearing 40. Black Dog
Honorable Mention: D’yer Mak’er The Crunge I’m Gonna Crawl

Here are Top 25 Zeppelin songs 3. Down by the Seaside Wow, I thought I was showing this a lot of love by including it in my list--at #34! You might like "Down By The Seaside" more than anyone, more than the band itself.

Kapitan, a lot of later period stuff! (Hmm, I suppose I could post my top 40.)

You might like "Down By The Seaside" more than anyone, more than the band itself. Funny thing is its one of those songs I used to ignore. Around 2005 or so, I randomly heard it on the radio, and thought "What the hell is this greatness in my ears?"

Physical Graffiti - 11 Led Zeppelin IV - 7 Led Zeppelin III - 8

Kapitan, a lot of later period stuff! (Hmm, I suppose I could post my top 40.) Yes, I've always loved In Through the Out Door, and came to like Presence much, much more one summer ('98? Around there) when I had the cassette in my car and just played it over and over on my drive to and from work. Conversely I'm nowhere near the fan of the debut as most people are, and don't even really like some of those early classics like "Whole Lotta Love" and "Dazed and Confused."
That said, I really, really love so much of this music, especially from II through Houses of the Holy plus In Through the Out Door, that I almost could just put those whole albums up as favorites. I love almost every song on them all (and quite a few songs on the others).

I've noticed a trend. Whole Lotta Love is not getting..a whole lotta love. I see it on one list, at the bottom.
So, is this a case of a song that has been just slaughtered by classic rock radio? Or, is it the Zep equivalent of Money, Enter Sandman, or Barbara Ann?
For me, had I compiled my list 25 years ago, it's easily in the top 20. But, after four years of working for an "active rock" station, I had my fill. In fact, I probably haven't listened to LZII in full since the late 90s.

I've noticed a trend. Whole Lotta Love is not getting..a whole lotta love. I see it on one list, at the bottom. For me, it's a perfectly good little blues-rock song. One of the great riffs of all time. But that middle section, the "experimental" part or whatever you prefer to call it or think of it as, I think it's awful. Much like I hate the similar segment of Queen's "Get Down, Make Love," I think it's a waste of tape. Live? Maybe different. On an album, no thank you.

Kapitan hit on why I included "Whole Lotta Love" on my list...but just barely. It does include one of the greatest riffs of all-time. In addition, it also features some vintage Robert Plant high-pitched wailing. However, the middle section does bring it down, no doubt about it.
It's funny, but there was a time when I liked that middle, "experimental" part - in real time back in 1969. I thought it sounded cool and psychedelic (even though I didn't know what psychedelic meant) on AM radio. But, some stations did play the edited version with the middle deleted.

Yeah, for me, it's not a matter of having heard it too much, it's just that the experimental section brings it down a notch. Also, outside of the riff and solo, there's not much to really make it standout (IMO), and it's a tad repetitive (even for Zeppelin). I still like it, though. If I extended my top 40 to top 50, it probably would have made it.
