Last call for Mr. Dylan...... Screw it, I'm never going to get around to it. Move along.

I'm criminally unacquainted with the music of Queen. I could organize a top ten at a pinch, or maybe even a top twenty... [ten minutes later] This is embarrassing. I scoured their albums and singles and found six songs I really like! Seven Seas of Rhye You're My Best Friend Get Down, Make Love I'm In Love With My Car Who Wants To Live Forever Pain Is So Close To Pleasure

I'm criminally unacquainted with the music of Queen. I've always been under the impression that they were so big in the UK and Europe that it would be difficult to be unfamiliar with them. Perhaps I've overestimated the depth and breadth of their reach.
Having obsessed over them as arguably my favorite band from about 1990-95, I'm going to find this much faster and easier than Dylan. (And with Dylan, there is just SO MUCH that once I'm outside my favorite half-dozen albums or so, it would've taken me quite a while to re-listen and rethink it all. Hence my lack of completing that task.)

10. Death on Two Legs 17. Drowse 18. Jealousy 19. All Dead All Dead 23. Teo Torriate 24. You Take My Breathe Away Well, kds, your love of Queen II showed through! But I've quoted above some of your higher picks that surprised me a little bit. I like all of those songs, so I'm not really arguing. Just surprising, is all: I don't think a lot of (casual, anyway) Queen fans would have "Drowse" and "All Dead All Dead" in their Top 20!

Perhaps I've overestimated the depth and breadth of their reach. I think I'm unacquainted with them because most of what I did hear at the time didn't encourage me to dig any deeper. It simply failed to strike a chord with me. The six songs I listed are exceptions, particularly the two from A Kind Of Magic, which I bought on the strength of the truly extraordinary "WWTLF".

Sorry, but I'm less of a Queen fan than a Dylan fan. I'll be sitting this one out too.....

I think it's nestled perfectly between Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy and Teo Torriate to close out the Day at the Races album. All Dead All Dead is a song that I've really only recently come around on. When we were discussing the Queen catalog a few years ago, I listened to NOTW for probably the first time in 20 odd years. I love the fact that I can be a fan of a band for such a long time, and still occasionally discover a hidden gem.

Nice to see some love for Modern Times Rock and Roll. That was close to making my list.

I knew the Queen list would go faster! A quick glance at each album and I could jot down something close to a rough approximation of where I'd end up rating things. A little fine-tuning. That said, as is always the case, don't take this TOO seriously. This morning I've had some Queen on shuffle, and I keep thinking "oh, I need to move that one up ... and that one! Oh, and that one!" It's like grade inflation, pretty soon there are 50 songs in the Top 20.
As you can see, I've got a soft spot for the campy/old-timey things like "Seaside Rendezvous," "Leroy Brown," "Dreamer's Ball." That said, I've got a soft spot for a LOT of Queen material.
1. Bicycle Race 2. Killer Queen 3. We Will Rock You/We Are the Champions 4. Bohemian Rhapsody 5. Seaside Rendezvous
6. Nevermore 7. Dear Friends 8. Somebody to Love 9. Don’t Stop Me Now 10. Crazy Little Thing Called Love
11. Don’t Stop Me Now 12. Tie Your Mother Down 13. Dreamer’s Ball 14. Save Me 15. Love of My Life
16. Show Must Go On 17. You’re My Best Friend 18. The Fairy Feller’s Master Stroke 19. Bring Back That Leroy Brown 20. Play the Game
21. Ogre Battle 22. Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon 23. Who Wants to Live Forever 24. Fat Bottomed Girls 25. Jealousy
26. The Millionaire Waltz 27. I’m Going Slightly Mad 28. I Want to Break Free 29. ’39 30. You Take My Breath Away
31. Teo Toriatte 32. Good Company 33. Innuendo 34. One Vision 35. Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy
36. Flick of the Wrist 37. These Are the Days of Our Lives 38. Sheer Heart Attack 39. March of the Black Queen 40. I Was Born to Love You
41. Another One Bites the Dust 42. Who Needs You 43. Need Your Loving Tonight 44. It’s a Hard Life 45. Mustapha
46. Spread Your Wings 47. Brighton Rock 48. Keep Yourself Alive 49. White Queen 50. Sleeping On the Sidewalk
51. Just Keep Passing the Open Windows 52. Great King Rat 53. I Go Crazy 54. My Fairy King 55. A Kind of Magic
56. Under Pressure 57. Princes of the Universe 58. It’s Late 59. Man on the Prowl 60. Miracle
61. Don’t Try Suicide 62. Breakthru 63. Made in Heaven 64. Staying Power 65. Rain Must Fall
66. Tear It Up 67. Too Much Love Will Kill You 68. All Dead, All Dead 69. Lily of the Valley 70. Hammer to Fall
71. Stone Cold Crazy 72. Heaven For Everyone 73. Mad the Swine 74. Leaving Home Ain’t Easy 75. You and I
Edit - "My Melancholy Blues" came up and I realized I'd omitted it. Too many good songs, too few spots. I'd put MMB somewhere in that latter third of my list.

I almost expanded mine to 75 when I realized I left off classics like WWRY/WATC, Another One Bites the Dust, I Want to Break Free, Crazy Little Thing, Under Pressure, etc etc.
I should've noted, for my list, Tie Your Mother Down is the full album version with the DATR overture intro. And, Love Of My Life is the album version too, which I like even better than the Freddie / Brian / audience live version.

Love Of My Life is the album version too, which I like even better than the Freddie / Brian / audience live version. Totally agree on this one! The orchestrated guitars are fabulous. That's one thing about the pre-synth era: Brian's guitar arrangements were miraculous.

Also, just the overdubbing. Keeping in mind they were working on tape with limited tracks. I believe--but would not swear to it--that they did their first couple albums on 16-track machines (though I think some of Queen I was 8 track), then going to 24 around Sheer Heart Attack. But even so, they'd probably use around 10 tracks' worth of that on the core track of drums, bass, piano, guitar. Obviously the vocal overdubs took a lot of tracks, and so did the guitars.
Just organizing it all would have been a task. You'd need to know roughly what you planned to do in advance in order to keep bouncing (and submixing on the way) so that you'd have sufficient space for it all.
