I'm not sure if Al has the kind of ego to not accept being an opener. I've seen artists whose names are more legendary than Al's as openers (ie. Robert Plant and Alice Cooper). I'm also realistic. If and when the prospect of touring on his own occurs, Al will probably be in his early/mid 80's. How much "Mike Love" is in him, you know, rock 'til you drop. Maybe after his Brian run, Al will simply decide to (literally) retire to the farm and just do the occasional recording session or one-off live appearance with whomever. He seems to enjoy the storytellers shows he does with Matt, so I could see him keeping that up for a little bit.

Bob Dylan is heading out on the road for what is being promoted as a 3-year tour behind his most recent album, Rough and Rowdy Ways. This first leg kicks off in Milwaukee in November.
Pretty ambitious plan for a guy his age. But then again, what else is he going to do? I think he's made it pretty obvious that he intends to tour while he can, until he can't.

Dylan is coming to Hershey, PA on 11/16/21, just 30 minutes from my home. I don't know what I want to do. I'm not a fan of Rough And Rowdy Ways and I know he'll play a few (long) songs from that album. If I knew the rest of the setlist...

I think Bob will be one of those guys who dies on the road, like the old blues and gospel singers. Exactly the fate (Jack Fate?) that Robbie Robertson was so superstitious about avoiding.

How does Mick still do it and sound the same? Incredible.

Charles Lloyd Quartet--yes, the former Beach Boys touring musician and Mike Love meditation buddy--will be in town next week in a small, very nice venue. (The same one I saw Al Jardine's storytellers show in, actually.) However, with tickets starting at $45 and me not being that big a fan of Mr. Lloyd, I won't be attending. It is a jazz group, however, so I suspect I'd like it more than I do when he noodles on Beach Boys tracks.

I also wanted to mention that Charles Lloyd played on The Doors' final album, Full Circle in 1972. He is very prominent on two songs - saxophone on "Verdilac" and flute on "The Piano Bird".

Elvis Costello was in town last night for, surprisingly, his first-ever gig at First Ave. Apparently it was a very good (sold out) show.

This past weekend, the M3 Festival was held in Columbia, MD. A day before the festival, Extreme bowed out due to some positive COVID cases.
I have tickets to four upcoming shows in 2022, and I think I was hoping that COVID would be endemic by now. But, now I have to admit, I'm mildly concerned. Especially since my wife and I are attending three of the shows this summer, and going to a show requires a lot of planning when you have a toddler. Not to mention the fact that we've planned our vacation, so any possible rescheduled show could run into that.
I'll admit, I haven't dug too deep into this, but are artists being tested regularly? Or, just artists / crews who've not been vaccinated?

I'm not sure how widespread testing is among artists and their crews, but our local venues are still pretty widely requiring proof of vaccination, etc., to attend shows. And I am still seeing quite a few shows being postponed or canceled after positive tests among bands/crews.
We've actually been trending up again with positive cases the past couple of weeks, though my understanding is that hospitalizations and deaths remain very low. I think this new variant of omicron seems to be even more easily transmissible, but with more moderate effects and outcomes.

Same here, even if our positivity rate is still only around 5% (compared to 40% at the height of the Xmas surge).
Of course, the local news agencies have ramped up their COVID coverage again now that things appear to be trending up, after being virtually silent about COVID over the last three months.
I'm hoping the eventual warmer weather bucks the trend a little bit.
