A couple of new dates for Mike and Bruce, for 2021: Dec. 31 -- Uncasville, CT -- Mohegan Sun And, of course, that is the actual 60th Anniversary date as far as live performances go, isn't it?

We are a group of fans in desperate need of clarity from the band themself about when they're going to get back together for a full and proper reunions to celebrate the 60th. Our speculation about bits of interviews and dates when this one or that one is scheduled is becoming really frustrating. I'm sure you'll all agree

Our speculation about bits of interviews and dates when this one or that one is scheduled is becoming really frustrating. I'm sure you'll all agree I'm with you on this, prof, and I've posted about it in the 60th Anniversary thread. However, some facts are starting to come out, and those are the dates that Brian and especially Mike & Bruce are booking. I realize there was no way they could "pull off" a reunion concert for 12/31/21 (well, actually they could), but that was one key date that will not be celebrated by a reunited Beach Boys. This isn't rocket science, so we'll be able to see when there won't be reunion dates in 2022, just based on when Brian and Mike & Bruce have booked shows with their respective bands. And, based on that logic - and it is logic - we now know there ain't gonna be reunion concerts in the spring and summer of 2022, unless Brian and/or Mike & Bruce "transform" one of their shows into a full-fledged reunion show, and for several reasons, that ain't gonna happen.

Yes that makes perfect sense and the question arises, so what the hell are they doing. What in the world are they going to do to show togetherness for the 60th when they have so many separate shows scheduled. I have seen Al's show and I already have a ticket for al in March in San Juan Capistrano, and I've seen Mike and Bruce and I seen Brian and his band twice, and I will not see another configuration unless it happens to be Dave with the Surf City All Stars or unless Dave joins with either of the touring bands. Other than that I have no desire to see anything except the actual reunions if it were to exist quote author=" Sheriff John Stone" source="/post/27648/thread" timestamp="1634693063"] We are a group of fans in desperate need of clarity from the band themself about when they're going to get back together for a full and proper reunions to celebrate the 60th. I think it's becoming clear there won't be a reunion tour. Maybe a tv special, maybe one or two new songs. Mike and Bruce are still playing to large crowds without Brian and Al; as far as most people going to those shows are concerned, Mike's band IS the Beach Boys. There's plenty of video footage throughout the show of Carl, Dennis, Brian, Al. I don't know why the Brianistas would want a reunion - "what, put the legendary genius Brian Wilson on the same stage as Satan, Mike Love?" Why indeed. What do we think Brian is going to do during those shows? Sit behind his piano and look miserable? The time for a reunion was 10 years ago. They did it, gave us a new studio album, a live dvd and cd...i don't expect anything more from them.

Totally respect that perspective. Let me put it another way. As a consumer, as a customer who's ready to spend money whether it's on streaming a documentary or buying a $200 ticket to a show or 3 $200 tickets to three shows in the Greater Los Angeles area, or a new album or any other related product, I want to know when the product is available if it is and how much it's going to cost and when I can get it. So Clarity for the consumer is another way of looking at it. In this case it's not a matter of being a fan who demands that the band get back together for his own sense of nostalgia, but rather a customer that's willing to buy a product and wants to know exactly what's being sold and what is distribution is and under what circumstances. Still I should never imagine that everyone agrees with me and I assert this as my own perspective. Best wishes to all and it's always fun to contemplate what's going to happen with the Beach Boys.

Al and Mike can keep doing their individual live things. I think Brian should be left in peace.

I kinda get where you're going, but it's not like concerts aren't typically announced months ahead of time, sometimes even a year ahead of time, so should The Beach Boys announce a show, or shows with a reunited lineup, there's little doubt there'll be plenty of notice.

The uncertainty doesn't really bother me. In fact, it's part of being a big fan, I would think. Consider, every artist/band always leaves people wondering, right up until they don't. We just happen to be in a period where some speculation from fans is natural, but before any announcements.
We know something is coming, we just don't know precisely what or when. That doesn't strike me as bungling on their end, or some mistreatment of fans. It's not a lot different than a kid a week before Christmas, except we don't know the day when the presents can be opened.
And to drag out the metaphor, we each have different hopes for what's in those presents: a show, a tour, a song, an album, a documentary, all of the above. We're not going to get everything we asked Santa for--no pony for you, KDS--but that doesn't mean we're neglected, either.
But this is where the metaphor has to shift a little, making us not kids waiting for Christmas, but adults. Adults understand that they're not getting everything they could hope for, and in fact recognize that they've already gotten plenty. C50 and TWGMTR were great, but that doesn't stop us from hoping for more. And we've already gotten more since then! The copyright sets have been amazing in some cases, and there are more coming. But it's not a bottomless well, either. The copyright sets are somewhat predictable, and I'd say we run out of really interesting things within a decade; and new work from the active band ... it's just not going to go on forever, and it might be done.
Daydreaming anticipation is fun, not punishment. Especially when reality is usually less rewarding than the anticipation. I think there is nothing really new from the group, that's OK: C50 was a good finale; if there is something new from them and it's up to par, that's even better! If there is something new and it's bad, well, that's possible too. But whatever it is, it is. And it won't be all that long before we're officially informed. I see no reason to write everyone off ahead of time just because their schedule doesn't match our daydreams.

I know I'm been beating this drum for a long time, but I'd actually settle for a good live document from the 2012 tour. I feel like I asked Santa for a Red Ryder BB Gun, and only got the BBs.

Maybe I should check behind the desk in the living room for my DVD of the 61 song RAH show from September 27, 2012.
I just hope I can finish it before the Bumpus Hounds show up to destroy the turkey.

Still I should never imagine that everyone agrees with me and I assert this as my own perspective. Best wishes to all and it's always fun to contemplate what's going to happen with the Beach Boys. Again, prof, I understand your feelings, and I'm basically with you on your above point. Sure, The Beach Boys don't owe us any more albums. Or concerts. Or reunions if you wanna take it that far. If we get any of those, fine. If not, it's a bummer but, no, it's not the end of the world.
However, I don't think it's too much to at least let their fans know in advance, or as soon as they can, about any reunion plans. If there aren't any, OK, we'll wait. Maybe there aren't actually any concrete plans to be disclosed at this time. But, if something is already set in place and work has begun on it, then I can't see why that can't be shared with the fans.
I find it hard to believe that in November 2021, there are no specific reunion plans in place for 2022. As dysfunctional as the group has been in the past, at least they celebrated anniversaries...on time. 15 Big Ones was, um, 15 years after the group was formed in 1961 and 15 years after their first record, "Surfin'", was released. Even the 25th Anniversary TV special was filmed in 1986, during the 25 anniversary year (though it was televised in early 1987). They had so much time to prepare for the 50th Anniversary and then it technically ALL took place in the 51st year. Now they are repeating the 50th Anniversary timeline, meaning they are going into the next year. "Surfin'" was released on November 27, 1961, so that 60th anniversary will come and go. The band's first paying gig was 12/31/61 and we now know that Mike & Bruce are booked for 12/31/21, so no dice for that reunion either.
Anyone familiar with the group, especially the surviving members, specifically Brian, Mike, and Al, know that those three are the worst possible "representatives" to depend on for information. Brian probably doesn't know anything. Mike is always coy and feeds you the "we hope to do something fun, fun, fun and to spread some good vibrations" line. And, Al, is, shall I say, a little loose with the truth. Recently, he said something about being "hopeful" for a world tour. Poor Al. So, why can't we get some official news from management? What's wrong with asking for that? In 2021? With all kind of social media outlets? As Beach Boys' fans, do you think we deserve that? A few little crumbs? That's all we're asking. I can wait but I don't wanna wait. I mean, I post on a Beach Boys' message board on a daily basis. Even Howie Edelman or whatever his name is used to criticize me/us for that. He used to tell us to get a life...and a real name.
