I haven't been following Brian's band closely. Was Nicky Wonder ever replaced in the band? I haven't even thought about that. I have no idea. Does anyone know?

New dates just announced - 18 shows in less than a month. Why?

To be fair, the distances to be traveled are minimal. If you’ve got a show tonight and a show 2 hours away the night after next, that’s not especially rigorous by touring standards, even for an old guy.

So, what's the difference between the "Greatest Hits" shows of the last several years and this "Good Vibrations Greatest Hits"? Just a new shiny label?

It’s similar, but with significantly better vibrations.

It’s similar, but with significantly better vibrations. At least it won't feature any "goddamn shitty vibrations."

(Angry marketing intern crumples most recent idea for 2021 tour. Guess there’s still work to be done.)

And using a surfboard to promote the show? Oh my. I swear, if there's a single surfboard or palm tree onstage, Brian's legacy is ruined. RUINED I SAY!!

Isn't that why they continued to perform - and advertise - Pet Sounds. Everywhere you looked - Brian Wilson performing Pet Sounds. Brian Wilson performing Pet Sounds. Brian Wilson performing Pet Sounds. "Good Vibrations" is probably more popular than Pet Sounds...let's use that! Marketing.

I know we've discussed this a lot, and will continue to discuss it I guess, but remember the day - and I know you do - when The Beach Boys, and specifically Mike Love, were criticized for being a "traveling jukebox", which was just another way of saying they PLAYED AS MANY OF THEIR HITS AS POSSIBLE! Now we know Brian Wilson would never do that. He is/was an artist, unlike his money-grabbing cousin. He would never stoop that low. He has musical integrity. Well, the worm had turned. Is that the cliche'? Not only is he playing...THE GREATEST HITS...he's advertising it!

To me, part of this plays out as follows: people need to get over themselves. Sure, certain fans either only like small segments of the music or love it all, but have seen so many shows that they’re a little tired of the obvious hits. That’s fine. We each have our own preferences. And I, myself, am a lot less likely to see my eighth or tenth (or whatever I’m up to) Brian Wilson show if it’s a greatest hits show. But that isn’t the correct position to hold, or an admirable position to hold. It’s just my position. That’s all it is. And what’s more, it is obviously not true of Joe Public, who knows and loves hits and probably wants to hear those most of all. Sure, there can be the odd unfamiliar song thrown in and he isn’t going to complain too much, but if two-thirds of the show were solo or obscure material, I’m guessing he’s going home unhappy.

That's it in a nutshell. There's a reason why Sounds of Summer (the comprehensive 30 song greatest hits collection released in 2003) re-enters the charts pretty much every year once the weather warms in the States. For just about any legacy artist, the hits puts the butts in the seats.
