See, now I wasn't expecting to see Winds of Change or When Girls Get Together! I certainly don't think they're great, but not the worst either. What do you dislike about them?

The thing that ruins it for me is the doot doot doot parts where it just sounds like they gave up on writing lyrics. I love the instrumental track though.

See, now I wasn't expecting to see Winds of Change or When Girls Get Together! I certainly don't think they're great, but not the worst either. What do you dislike about them? "Winds of Change" is just such cheese, I can't deal with it. It also doesn't really sound like a Beach Boys song to me at all. And shockingly I don't even think Al's vocal is very good, especially in the first verse, but also in the key changes at the end of the second version. Background group vocals are admittedly good though.
"When Girls Get Together" is just so tedious. There just isn't a lot to it, and so its 3:30+ running time strikes me as rather excessive. I don't mind the instrumental arrangement at all--in fact it's nice--but the song itself is just so goddamn dumb! The lyrics are painful as well, but that's the Beach Boys for you!

Least favorite song: HCTN '79, Summer of Love Yeah, I forgot about about "Summer Of Love" (probably because I never listen to it), and I would change/add that to my least favorite song.
Now, "Here Comes The Night (1979)...I still defend it. I always kinda liked it. Basically it's a good song, Carl's lead vocal and the group's background vocals are excellent, and it also sounded good on a car radio. While it was slightly late in jumping on the disco bandwagon, I still accepted it. I mean, it's not like they did multiple disco songs. I would've preferred that they shorten it a bit (the single version length maybe), but they still had enough time on L.A. (Light Album) for another song or two.

Sure, they didn't do multiple disco songs, but they did one, and it's terrible, and terribly long. I think the Stones, Floyd, Bad Company, and other bands did a far better job at infusing disco beats in their songs without doing full blown 10 minute dance disasters. I do agree a single version would have been infinitely better, and would've greatly improved LA by not stinking up a quarter of the album.

Least favorite album: Keeping the Summer Alive, SIP I can still get some enjoyment out of Keepin' The Summer Alive. Yes, it could've been better by adding "Goin' To The Beach" and substituting for "When Girls Get Tgether" (I like the song but it didn't belong on THIS album), but there's still a half of a strong album with the title track, "Goin' On", "Livin' With A Heartache", "Santa Ana Winds", "Some Of Your Love", and "Oh Darlin'".

Yeah, I can enjoy parts of KTSA and SIP to a certain extent. In fact, there are about six songs on SIP I really enjoy (which is probably more than I can say for Smiley Smile and Love You). But, I think the overall quality of these albums are inferior to the other 26 (27 if you include Smile).

Most overrated song: Cuddle Up, My Diane "Cuddle Up"? Them's fightin' words. I think it's easily one of Dennis' best songs, and it always appears on my Most Underrated BB Songs list (almost made my two on this thread). It is such a romantic love song. I love the production and maybe the most tender vocal of Dennis' career.
"My Diane"? Yep, I agree with you. I never thought of it as a great BW-composed song, and the lyrics are very elementary in places, though sometimes elementary can be good, but - "Everything is old and nothing is new. All I ever do is think of you..."

Least favorite song: I Wanna Pick You Up, TM Song For such a short song (1:38), Brian threw so much into "TM Song". It's almost a mini-suite! Somewhere there's a very good song in there. It might be "for Beach Boys' fans only", and, other than the argument which I'm sick of hearing, it's actually grown on me through the years.
Oooh, I like "I Wanna Pick You Up". It's a simple song, but unique for BW with two Beach Boys singing in unison like that. I like the melody and the a capella ending.

Most underrated album: Surf's Up, Obviously we disagree as I had Surf's Up as one of my Most Overrated albums. This one hasn't aged well with me. Other than the closing three BW, none of the other songs really get to me, though I don't dislike them (except "Take A Load Off Your Feet"). I just think they are mostly OK to good songs, nothing special. "Disney Girls" would be an exception. I'm also influenced by knowing what Surf's Up could've been with "(Wouldn't It Be Nice) To Live Again" and "4th Of July".
