This could and probably should go in the new music thread, but I thought it was worthwhile to point it out to Beatles fans who might not be checking that thread.
It's Beyonce's new cover of the Beatles' "Blackbird" (which she styles as "Blackbiird," the "ii" being a recurring spelling idiosyncracy related to her new album being the second in a planned trilogy ... how very Prince-ish). It features harmony singing from Tanner Adell, Brittney Spencer, Tierra Kennedy and Reyna Roberts. (I've never heard of the harmony singers.)
My first impression is that it's gorgeous. And the guitar is startlingly similar to the original to the point that I wonder whether it's pulled from the original. (If so, McCartney is going to love that paycheck.)
Oh, also, the song that precedes "Blackbiird" is the opening track, "Ameriican Requiem," which ends with an "amen." But rather than the typical plagal cadence a person finds in amens (which is to say IV-I, chordally), it follows the harmonies of "Blackbird"--the ones behind "you were only waiting for this moment to arrive." Very cool arrangement touch!

I saw some Beatles fan reactions on the Facebook. Totally rational responses without listening to the song.
It's pretty good though. But, yeah, it sounds very much like she sampled the backing track from the original song. If she didn't, then whoever played it nailed it.

It always makes me laugh at the reaction of a contemporary artist covering a Classic Rock classic. I mean, nobody's taking the original song away guys.

Exactly. Sure, a lot of covers suck. (But hey, a lot of originals suck, too--and always have.) But even if you don't like it, why not just think it's cool that some new or different artist thinks enough of a song or band you like to record it, bring a new audience to it, and put a few bucks into the pockets of the original artist?
And in this case, what's there to get worked up about? It's largely faithful to the original, but with the inclusion of really nice vocal harmonies. What, would Macca disapprove of vocal harmonies!? Do Beatles fans hate those now? C'mon...

I'm thinking those people never listened to the lyrics or heard Paul tell his intentions behind them.

That's a very good cover! Tasteful. And I do think that's the original guitar.

The partial realization of a dream many Beatles fans have had for decades by this point, a collaboration between James McCartney and Sean Ono Lennon. The results are ... mediocre. Fine. Nothing special. Careful what you wish for!

The Beatles Facebook page posted "There will be an answer. At last...." with a graphic that looks like a white outline of the Let It Be cover with the Disney+ logo at the bottom.
This feels like a tease for a legit release of the Let It Be movie

If so, it'll be interesting seeing it now that we've seen so, so, so, so much more footage through the recent Peter Jackson produced documentary.

I’d love to watch the (restored) original followed by the documentary. I think that would be very interesting. I have no idea where that would leave me regarding my view of the original. And I’ve been wanting to rewatch the documentary since I first saw it upon release.

Right, it'll be interesting to have both versions legitimately available. I vaguely recall, when the Get Back project was announced five or so years ago, that there were plans to release Let It Be. But, when it wasn't released at the same time as Get Back, I thought perhaps those plans changed. Which wouldn't be anything new as they've been rumors about a legit release of Let It Be for over 20 years.

My fear is that this will be available only on Disney +. Gonna hang onto my bootleg VHS until a legit DVD comes out. If it does.
