... Double Fantasy might be overrepresented at 4 songs. I can see how some fans think Yoko prioritizes certain stuff over others. There's always a lot of Double Fantasy on John's compilations, for instance, but frankly it's hard to argue against that, I think. It looks like SEVEN songs from Double Fantasy:
1. (Just Like) Starting Over 2. I'm Losing You 3. Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy) 4. Watching The Wheels 5. Woman 6. Dear Yoko 7. Every Man Has A Woman Who Loves Him
Yeah, 7 on the 2CD version, 4 on the 1CD version.

SJS, do you have an opinion one way or the other? It reminds me of the 1982 compilation, The John Lennon Collection, which was the first released after his death. Despite the fact that everyone would have recently purchased it, 6 of the 17 songs (6 of 15 on the US LP) were from Double Fantasy. I think those core songs are worthy, but 3 would have sufficed.

I think it's appropriate to release an 80th Birthday set (it blows my mind that John Lennon would be turning 80!), and I guess they have to understand how the many compilations out there would cut into new sales, but it is an enticing set nevertheless. I have Shaved Fish, The John Lennon Collection, and a bunch of individual mp3s of crucial John Lennon tracks. I was impressed with that new mix of Instant Karma, and it would be nice to have the best possible sounding versions. If I could pick up the 2CD set at a nice price, I might go for it.

Do you think Double Fantasy is overrepresented? I don't mean to suggest that it's a deal-breaker or anything, just an interesting point of discussion.

I don't know how essential "Dear Yoko" and "Every Man Has A Woman Who Loves Him" is. I like "Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy)" a lot, too, but I'm not sure that one is essential. As you pointed out, other albums are probably under-represented.

Call me cynical, but to me, nothing screams cash grab like a release of remixes. Remixes have been used to pad out reissues, compilations, and archive releases, and just one man's opinion, it just doesn't do anything for me.

Most of the compilations have excluded the Milk and Honey tracks. Nobody Told Me was a top 10 hit in early 84, so i would think that would have to be included, but maybe it's a hang up with the various record labels - DF was on Geffen, M&H was on Polydor; and of course most of the other stuff was on Apple or Capitol.

First look at the companion book to the Get Back film. Both are scheduled for an August 2021 release.

An 11-month preview/teaser period? Jesus.

An 11-month preview/teaser period? Jesus. I guess they're bored over there at Apple. The film and book would have been released this month if not for COVID-19. They're obviously ready to go. But, yeah, I definitely raised an eyebrow when I saw that they're waiting 'til the release of the film to make the book available, but they release this teaser now and will be accepting pre-orders 11 months in advance.

Maybe they didn't want any spoilers out before the film.

Maybe they didn't want any spoilers out before the film. Yeah, that makes sense. I don't have a problem with them waiting to release it. The timing of this teaser is just kinda funny (or sad - considering how disruptive COVID-19 has been).

I can see holding it for release (though I wish they didn't), but if that's the case, I don't see the sense of starting the teasers now.

You'd think they at least wait until after the Lennon release next month to try to get people excited about the Get Back stuff.
