Here's another track from Gimme Some Truth - "Mind Games". They cleaned it up quite a bit:

Remembering John Lennon on his 80th birthday...

The news of this also makes me worried that we aren't going to get a 50th anniversary box set of Plastic Ono Band, which has been rumored to exist, and which is FAR more enticing! Yes, the news of the Gimme Some Truth set had me a little worried about the fate of the POB set, but NO MORE. Recently there was an extensive interview with people who worked on Gimme Some Truth and they confirmed that the POB set is complete and that the 'ultimate mixes' series will encompass John's entire solo career! Yoko just thought starting with Imagine was best, strategically, and they wanted to do a compilation for John's 80th birthday. I'm guessing things will progress more or less chronologically from here on out. There was almost mention of the POB set in the notes of Gimme Some Truth where they note it's a 6CD set (The Imagine box set was 4CD). The interviewees also mentioned working on a George Harrison project, presumably for ATMP, but they didn't specify.

I happen to have noticed Sean Ono Lennon on Twitter in recent months and heard him interviewed a few times in relation to the recent Lennon comp, and I have to say, he's a more interesting, smarter guy than I gave him credit for when I heard him on the Brian Wilson Imagination DVD, for example. (Then again, that was 20+ years ago; maybe I was right about him then and am now! Or maybe that's a rationalization to make myself feel better...odds are I was an asshole on my first assessment.)
Anyway, I just saw this interview this evening. They begin with the Gimme Some Truth comp and then get into some more diverse questions including his mom's music (and studio skills), his relationship to Beatles music in general, reactions to some specific songs, etc. It's enjoyable to have on in the background.

Thanks for posting. Between this and a guest DJ spot I recently heard focusing on solo Beatles material, I've now heard more from Sean than I had my whole life. For one, he's a bigger, and more knowledgeable, Beatles fan than I thought he'd be, and he's a very thoughtful, honest guy. Early on in the interview he really got me motivated to check out more of the Gimme Some Truth comp (I found his description of John's mid-70s use of horns as "flagrant" amusing...and intriguing), but there was a lot of interesting thoughts and recollections throughout. That discussion at the end about "Imagine" (which was the last topic I thought I wanted to hear discussed) was fantastic!
As a guest DJ he really impressed me with his Beatles knowledge and eclectic taste. I mean, he selected not one but two songs from Ringo's Beaucoups of Blues! And, not only that but he knew the backstories and which musicians were performing on which tracks and whatnot. He sounded like a Beatlemaniac/insider, which I wasn't expecting. In the interview you posted, they touched on his relationship with the Beatles music, which corrected some of my misconceptions, and was actually a quite refreshing take/perspective. I've tried twice now to track down the setlist from his guest DJ spot, but to no avail. He even selected some offbeat stuff like the Bee Gees and Peter Frampton's version of "Sgt. Pepper/With A Little Help From My Friends" from the 1978 film soundtrack.

On this date in 1966, Paul McCartney was killed in a car accident, and replaced in The Beatles with a look/sound alike. While the band sold the new "Paul" well, several clues about what really happened to Paul were put on various songs and album artwork.
So, Happy 54th Birthday to one of music's all time greatest myths.

I'm hesitant to post this because it's long-winded but I've been noticing a lot of "Paul is dead" and "faul" comments lately (including on a recent Giggens video with a modest view count) and so I really enjoyed this topic being addressed by another Beatles youtuber, MrMeanMayo. Not for everyone, but I got some laughs out of it.

A 40-year-old tradition continues (virtually) at First Ave., the John Lennon tribute. I know this isn't a household name kind of thing, but here it is kind of a big deal in the local music scene.

Until just now, I have never listened to The Beatles Love album. It was mildly interesting. But, this is a case where I'm thankful for the internet giving me the ability to listen to the album without purchasing it.

It's probably been years since I listened to it, but I remember getting a kick out of it around the time of its release. I thought it was well-done. Some mashups/transitions working better than others but it was a cool, different way to experience their music. In some cases, hearing elements that perhaps you hadn't really focused on before. Certainly not essential, but a fun curio. I wonder what I'd think of it now, though. Considering how much more familiar I am with their music. Maybe I'd like it less? Hmm.

I've never heard John's Beatles' and solo music the same way again.

I was three months old when Lennon was killed. My father tells the story that he was holding me and told me that I'd never hear any new John Lennon music.

This year is heavier than most - 40 years alive, 40 years dead. It's pretty wild how important a person can become to so many people, in such a short time, and in such a lasting way. The senselessness of his death is what really gets you. Man, I just looked at that photo of John signing his autograph for Chapman. So sad, tragic, upsetting, infuriating, etc. I mean, what are the chances that it would happen the way it happened and that it would be documented? Sickening.
