OMG - How did I miss this before? Disco “Here Comes The Night”, performed on The Midnight Special! Also Dennis singing “Angel Come Home”. Roger McGuinn playing guitar with The Beach Boys. Al playing a 12 string during “Lady Linda”. Just wonderful!

Al playing a 12 string during “Lady Linda”. Just wonderful! I saw it the night it was broadcast. One of THE highlights of my early Beach Boys' fandom, or any period for that matter. It had everything - all the guys were present, the song selection (yes,"HCTN") was great, the band was rockin', the crowd was dancing and singing - and this was on national TV! But most of all, I was ecstatic at the way Brian looked - slimmed down, Help Me Rhonda jersey, and playing the Fender bass. Oh, and did I mention the best live version of "Rock And Roll Music" ever. I still get a kick out it 44 years later.

I'd like to know how much of that was to prerecorded tracks and how much was live, and how that mix worked. Unfortunately the mediocre quality of the recording itself makes it even harder than usual to really tell. (Obviously much of HCTN was prerecorded track.)

It appears that Dennis's vocal on "Angel Come Home" was adjusted/fixed, and I'm curious how they did it. Was an alternate vocal take done during or after the show? But, other than the prerecorded "Here Comes The Night" track, I can't really hear much if any overdubbing, sweetening, or prerecorded tracks used. And, yes, it would be great to have a better quality video. I know the tapes still exist because The Beach Boys appear on one of those Best Of The Midnight Special video box sets.

Apologies if this was posted already, but here is the official Midnight Special channel's version of "Good Vibrations" from that appearance.

"Sandy" was the precursor to "Sherry She Needs Me". I love the track and the background vocals. Brian was doing some special stuff!

I don't think this has been posted before on this board. It's very interesting:

Some high quality Looking Down the Coast/Santa Ana Winds. I had forgotten that Brian sang that lead vocal part on "Looking Down The Coast". That song and "Santa Ana Winds" would've been welcome editions on L.A. (Light Album), intertwined with "Full Sail" and "Goin' South".

I recall Looking Down the Coast and Santa Ana Winds were supposed to be part of a trilogy. Was the third song ever written/recorded, or is there a song I'm forgetting?
