While it wasn't technically finished, I do enjoy how Brian used Can't Wait Too Long as an intro piece to Midnight's Another Day on TLOS. When I first got the album, I initially wasn't really a big fan of how yet another BB piece was being used for a later solo project, but I've really come around on it. I think it worked really well there, too. I believe Sheriff John Stone considers it something like sacrilege (correct me if I'm wrong), but I thought it was perfectly done and well placed. Short of traveling back in time, finishing it, and putting it on Friends or 20/20 or something, I don't see a better option. A waste and a disgrace, shades of BWPS.

As someone who adores this era and has spent quite a bit of time listening to the 67 and 68 releases (including the digital only), The GV Boxset, Rarities and Feel Flows, it was actually hard for me to whittle this down to ten tracks. I just had to put them in order to how much I like to listen to them.
1. "I'm Going Your Way" - I've listened to this track A LOT on Feel Flows. It rocks and I even adore the intro chat "Let's do this one for our, for our divorce lawyers". I want to play this on guitar. Dennis sounds awesome. Heck - this song even had it's own archival digital EP release (along with an alternate version of "Slip On Through" and "Carnival (Over the Waves)". Dennis finished a song!
2. "Where Is She" - And right after IGYW on Feel Flows is this wonderful song, that sounds like it was written by Paul McCartney. It really reminds me of "She's Leaving Home". I think it's beautiful.
3. "Can't Wait Too Long/Been Way Too Long" - Oh my, those harmonies! I really love the version on the new extended version of Sounds of Summer (it actually sounds like a completed song). I have that disc in my car. I may have listened to it about 100 times since I bought SOS. Also like the GV Boxset version.
4. "We're Together Again". I forgot this wasn't on 20/20, because it's on the Twofer with Friends. I first heard it on Classics Selected by Brian Wilson, which I purchased just before I bought the GV Boxset. It has to be one of Brian's favorites. I can't disagree. I love it.
5. "Walk On By" - Brian's vocal is hauntingly beautiful. So stunning. It would rank higher if it were finished. Why in the heck could they not complete such a beautiful cover? The version on Youtube called "best version" is the clearest and closest thing we get to a finished song.
6. "San Miguel" - The first time I heard this song, just before the release of Feel Flows, I thought "How was this song left off an album"? I couldn't believe that Dennis wrote this. He finished another song! That man could had an ear for melody.
7. "Games Two Can Play" - Another song from the GV box set that helped me start my love of the Boys.
8.and 9. - "With A Little Help From My Friends" and "The Letter" are on the Rarities cassette in my car, so once again - songs I heard before I had ever heard an entire proper album from the Beach Boys, that wasn't a comp. Love these covers.
10. "Rock and Roll Woman" - Well before I was a Beach Boys fan, in my Teenage years, I would play Buffalo Springfield Again on vinyl over and over again so much I'm surprised that my parents didn't ask me to stop. Throw in Carl singing the lead and I'm hooked.

6. "San Miguel" - The first time I heard this song, just before the release of Feel Flows, I thought "How was this song left off an album"? I'm not sure why it didn't make Sunflower, as it was ( per AGD's site) one of the songs included on the master tape of "Last Capitol Album" ( Fading Rock Group Revival, Reverberation, whatever you like to imagine it was to have been called). So it could have made that album. It was also included on the tape "engineer Steve Desper compiled ... of tracks in the can that might be suitable for the second Reprise album," listed under the Landlocked entry. I'm not sure how long it remained in the running for what became Surf's Up, but Dennis might have pulled it from that one himself, just as he did "Wouldn't It Be Nice (to Live Again)," out of his frustration.

I’m surprised there aren’t any votes for “A Time to Live in Dreams” yet. I remember when I was first really getting into the Beach Boys, and Dennis, discovering that one was a pretty big find. I still like it a lot. It’ll certainly make my top 10. As a big Dennis fan, I wonder if carllove will join me? Looks like I might be all alone.

There is no ideal compilation of "CWTL" but the one for me is the one I heard first, on the Smiley Smile/Wild Honey twofer: I agree. I've heard all of the BB-release versions and the fan-made versions on YouTube, but I'm frustratingly not entirely satisfied with any of them. I've had my personal vision for a version for years. I just don't have the software/technology/knowledge to make it!

With A Little Help From My Friends - This IS a great song ... but not a great version. The lead vocal drives me nuts with the weird accents given to certain words/notes: what would you THINK if I SANG out of TUNE, would you STAND up... like he's sliding into them and pushing up the fader as each continues. Strange delivery. This was one of the first songs I listened to this week and I thought it was a shoo-in, but it ended up at #11. It really is a great song. Listening to this stripped-down version always seems to remind me of that (I think Beatles fans tend to take it for granted). I actually don't mind the phrasing throughout so much, but it kills me that he flubs the climactic note so badly. I really dig it 'til that point. Then I start questioning why the lead is Bruce slowed down. Just odd.

My votes (very loosely ranked):
1. "Their Hearts Were Full Of Spring" 2. "I Just Got My Pay" 3. "San Miguel" 4. "Can't Wait Too Long/Been Way Too Long" 5. "Old Folks At Home/Old Man River" 6. "Walk On By" 7. "The Letter" 8. "We're Together Again" 9. "A Time To Live In Dreams" 10. "Soulful Old Man Sunshine"
As previously mentioned "With A Little Help From My Friends" is up next, followed by "Walkin'". I also seriously considered "Where is She?" and "Be Here in the Morning Darling".
The vocals only mix of "We're Together Again" and the Brian-sung demo of "Soulful Old Man Sunshine" helped those cross the finish line.
Oh, and as far as I'm considered "Their Hearts Were Full Of Spring" is the only true standout here. 10/10.

I don't feel overly strongly about most of these, the ones I do, I commented Their Hearts Were Full of Spring - Great harmonies here Can't Wait Too Long - Never thought it was much of a song, but again, those harmonies Riot in Cell Block 9 - Preferable to SDT The Letter - Solid cover Old Man River Soulful Old Man Sunshine San Miguel - Maybe my favorite here We're Together Again I Just Got My Pay Walk on By The only difference between our top 10s is your vote for "Riot in Cell Block 9" and mine for "A Time To Live In Dreams". After being absolutely blown away by the Carnegie Hall performance of "Jumpin' Jack Flash" on Sail On Sailor, I was a bit letdown when I revisited "Riot in Cell Block 9". After relistening again just now, it's certainly a fine/good performance, but I actually don't think I prefer it to "Student Demonstration Time". My main issue with SDT is really just the mix.
