One of the worst developments in artist credits was sticking someone out in front when just the name of the group had been fine before then (as in Gary Puckett & The Union Gap). Tamla Motown suffered the most in that respect (shame on you, Mr Gordy!) although it became almost standard practice at one point. The one that made me laugh and wince simultaneously was when Martha and The Vandellas became Martha Reeves and The Vandellas! Needless to say, it was all about shifting units.

I was wondering whether The Guess Who's 1974 hit "Clap For The Wolfman" would be credited as "featuring Wolfman Jack". It isn't.

Another uncredited artist mentioned (though not by name) in a song title is singer Ronnie Bright (1938–2015). As "Mr Bass Man", he is heard just as much if not more than than the one artist credited on the label, Johnny Cymbal. I hated this record with a vengeance as a youngster but it doesn't sound that bad to me now: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ronnie_Bright

We got off into the history of "featured" (or more often, not "featured") spots, but what about the credited ones?
Do you have a favorite pop/rock (country, rap, etc., I just mean to exclude jazz, where it has always been common) song (or several) that includes a credited featured artist?

I'm still thinking of a credited guest artist, but here's another uncredited one - Jill Gibson!

OK, I don't know if this is considered a duet, or if k.d. lang is considered the guest artist (it is Roy Orbison's song), or if Roy is guesting on k.d.'s song. I've seen the record credited a few different ways. Anyway, it's a great version:

I listened to a few candidates last night but finally decided on a track from Daft Punk's Random Access Memories, a recent discovery of mine. The guest artists in this case being Farrell Williams and Nile Rodgers: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lose_Yourself_to_Dance
