Another enjoyable show, beachboystalkmatt! I must confess that I've never been a big fan of L.A.. (Light Album). Coming off, as you pointed out, the very Brian Wilson-centric trio of 15 Big Ones, Love You, and M.I.U., I always found L.A. Light Album to be a disappointment. I usually cite these reasons:
1. Yes, there are two (three if you count "Shortenin' Bread) Brian Wilson songs on the album, but really only "Good Timin'" counts, and that was already in the can. Let's be honest - Brian Wilson was not on L.A. (Light Album).
2. I think the songs are weak. Two of Carl's ("Full Sail" and "Goin' South") are not among his best. I don't think "Love Surrounds Me" is one of Dennis Wilson's better songs. "Sumahama"? No. And, "Shortenin' Bread" (especially this version) is a terrible choice for an album closer.
3. Bruce's production is lifeless. For example, "Angel Come Home" is a good song, but it drags and does not reach its potential due to the production. After "Good Timin'" and "Lady Lynda", Side 1 is hard to get through. It just drrrraaaaaggggssss...
4. I like the 1979 "Here Comes The Night", but using an 11-minute version on the album was a big mistake. Never mind that it goes on and on, it takes up valuable space that could've been used by two or three other songs.
Other than that, i like the album.

Finally got around to watching this episode, and I love it! I’m a big fan of The Light Album and of Giggens, so it was right up my alley. At times I actually like Greg’s version of L.A. songs better than The Beach Boys.
