Saw that this morning. West has been public about his mental health problems for years now—since he was still playing, in fact—but it’s obvious those issues are bad right now and seemingly getting the best of him.
I hope he gets the help he needs.

I'm reading and hearing rumors that the Lakers - and the 76ers - are interested in acquiring Derrick Rose (even though Rose isn't necessarily interested in going anywhere). I really don't know what to think about this.

I'm reading and hearing rumors that the Lakers - and the 76ers - are interested in acquiring Derrick Rose (even though Rose isn't necessarily interested in going anywhere). I really don't know what to think about this. Especially for Philly, I don't think Rose is any kind of answer. The fact is, they need more and better shooters. Rose looked last year like he might be that guy, having hit a career-best 37 3pt%. But this year? Down to 31.3 3pt%, which is closer to his career average of 30.5 3pt%. I think last year was just an exception to the rule, as he has only ever had one other season above what I think of as the benchmark for being a real 3-pt shooter, 33.3%, which was his 34.0 3pt% in 13-14.
He is a really good player, and I'm thrilled at his comeback from so many injuries. But he's not the missing piece for Philly, at least.

Yeah, I haven't really been following Derrick Rose closely, but his playing style seems to resemble a Ben Simmons rather than an outside shooting threat, which as you correctly pointed out, is the Sixers' biggest need. Not that I wouldn't like a veteran leader like Derrick Rose in a Sixers' uniform, but I don't know how he would get his minutes. Josh Richardson is starting to play really well, and of all people, Furkan Korkmaz, is getting a lot of playing time because of his ability to shoot the 3. Now, Rose would obviously cut into Korkmaz's minutes, but I don't know how much Brett Brown wants to sit Simmons or Richardson, unless Brett uses Simmons in another role - like he did successfully yesterday against Brooklyn. I don't know how much legs this rumor has to begin with.

I have to say, in his time in Minnesota I REALLY came to appreciate and respect Derrick Rose. He amazed me in his early years in Chicago with his early-Dwyane Wade-like attacking of the rim, but his lack of shooting and passing annoyed me. Then I truly thought he was both washed up AND emotionally fragile / egotistical. I was not happy when he joined Minnesota under Thibs.
But he TOTALLY won me over. A former MVP came off the bench, worked his ass off, played within the system, never complained, and truly seemed like a leader. I love Derrick Rose now and really root for him. But I don't think he's the answer in Philly. (Or LA, for that matter.)

Despite putting up decent numbers in NY, I didn't think he'd still be in the league. Proved me wrong.

That's exactly when I thought he was done. Well, in NY, I thought he could still be a guy who got some numbers but hurt his team in doing so. Then in Cleveland, I truly thought he was done. I thought the world just broke him. That was a weird scene, with him being bad, the team being bad, and then as I recall it, him just kind of shutting it down as if hurt, though allegedly not having been really hurt... I don't know. It's been a few years and maybe I don't remember correctly. But to me, it just seemed like he was mentally done, couldn't handle being who he was compared with who he had been, and that was going to be that. He didn't look like an NBA player that year.
So when last season he was one of the Wolves' truly best players, REALLY good, I was just amazed. He converted me.
(But he's still not a real shooter.)

I heard that not only did Zion rehab the knee injury, but was working with specialists on new ways of walking, running, jumping, and landing on his feet that would hopefully be less stressful on his lower body and hopefully prevent future injuries.

Sorry, Kobe. But this sounds like a cheap empowerment spiel, not a realistic assessment. edition.cnn.com/2020/01/22/sport/kobe-bryant-women-nba-spt-intl/index.htmlIt’s a fact that good women’s teams, including WNBA teams, often practice against men. Sometimes those men include former small-college players, good athletes. And my understanding from stories on those practices is that they’re VERY competitive, putting to bed the tired old theory that any mediocre man can beat even the best women. No, Mr Rec League, you wouldn’t be WNBA MVP! But...the WNBA MVP couldn’t realistically compete in the NBA. That’s just not true.

“Sixers insider” Jon Johnson (maybe SJS knows him?) reports Philly is focusing on Sacramento wing Bogdan Bogdanovic or former 76er Robert Covington of Minnesota.
Either would be a great addition and make far more sense than Derrick Rose.
One wonders what Minnesota could get back for Covington.

Jon Johnson is an excellent reporter and sometimes radio talk show host on WIP in Philadelphia. I heard about the Covington rumor (although it didn't include who the Sixers would give up), but the Bogdanovic report is new to me. I like both of 'em, though.

First I watched the Sixers/Raptors game (while flipping back and forth to the impeachment hearings), then I stayed with ESPN to watch the Spurs/Pelicans game. Well, I ended up falling asleep in the 3rd quarter and missed the Zion explosion in the 4th. I caught the highlights this morning. Wow, I never expected the 3-point shooting prowess!

This could’ve been a post by me, right down to missing Zion’s burst. I was watching Wolves v Bulls, though, as well. Minnesota was terrible in the first half—just embarrassingly awful. When you’re being shamed by an injury-riddled Bulls team, you’re really bad. Sixers weren’t looking great last night, either. Zion looked awfully passive in the first quarter especially. Like he was too cool for school, not even crashing the boards.

Since Dec. 1, the Minnesota Timberwolves have had losing streaks of 11 and 9 (and counting). This after a 10-8 start.
They benched the starting point guard, then traded him for a wing despite only otherwise having one (fringe-) NBA point guard. Every time somebody gets a cold, he sits 2, 3, 5 games. Our best player missed a month (15 games) with a knee injury that was described as day-to-day.
The tanking happening here somehow isn't being openly acknowledged in our local media, and obviously we're being ignored nationally because, duh. But it sure is an unfortunate turn, especially after having just watched Thibs waste the previous tank "process" (that's for you, Philly) by going all-in only to burn out immediately.
