Also, note that Shortenin' Bread riff in the middle, aka the best musical fragment ever made.

Not half as good as "He Couldn't Get His Poor Old Body to Move."

Not half as good as "He Couldn't Get His Poor Old Body to Move." Made possible by the help of Lindsey Buckingham, whom I like to think responsible for the ridiculously dramatic electronic drum intro, like he was soundtracking a Rocky montage. For which, admittedly, this would have been ace.

I'll say this: if it had been recorded on either analog synths in the 70s or more natural instruments in the 60s, I suspect it would be beloved as a quirky bit of genius.

Not a great work, but an enjoyable one with the funniest "Shortenin' Bread" quote of all. I could listen to Brian doing music like this all day.

I could listen to Brian doing music like this all day. It's funny how many serious fans share that sentiment, considering how contrary it is to his mainstream or even critical reputation. Singalong, danceable hits? Melancholy, brilliantly arranged chamber pop? Nah, just the fat man's odes to health food over "Shortenin' Bread" or a knock-off thereof, thanks.
