Lana Del Rey recently came out with a new album and one of the songs has a Beach Boys reference on it. While I'm not particularly a fan of the song, the lyric "I miss the bar where the Beach Boys would go, Dennis's last stop before Kokomo" is pretty great imo. It also got me thinking about other times in pop culture where the Beach Boys were mentioned, or even appeared themselves. So here's a thread to post your favorite (or not so favorite) Beach Boys pop culture moments!
(skip to 4:30 for the song)

First, she snubs Brian on NPP, now mentioning Dennis in same lyric as Kokomo. How dare her!!!! While it may cause many fans to cringe, my first Beach Boys pop culture moment was their appearance on Full House around 1989. When the Boys visit the Tanners, Al asks DJ "Why don't you want to see us? Bon Jovi in town?" Over two decades later, Jon Bon Jovi has a writing credit on the final song on (likely) The Beach Boys' final album. Wouldn't It Be Nice is used in a beach montage in the classic Seinfeld episode The Hamptons. Several BB classics - In My Room, Fun Fun Fun, Wouldn't It Be Nice, and Do It Again - are featured in the 1986 summer comedy One Crazy Summer, which starred John Cusack, who would go on to play mid 1980s Brian Wilson.

I don’t think I have any particularly positive anecdotes about the Beach Boys in pop culture—or at least not broad ones. (I mean, it was REALLY cool to hear the 1971 album version of “Surf’s Up” on my local grocery store sound system … but I don’t know that it would qualify as a pop culture moment.) The Sunkist commercial might be the one that had the strongest impact on me: it was so corny it went a long way in turning me off the band for a solid decade. The “Kokomo” and Full House moments, coming when I was the perfect demographic to dislike such things, just reinforced my negativity. Had I been a few years younger or a decade older, I’m sure they’d have impacted me differently.

Speaking of Surf's Up, for me the most surprising use of a Beach Boys' song would be Cameron Crowe choosing "Feel Flows" as the song being played over the closing credits for his movie, Almost Famous. That movie was about rock and roll, the somewhat sleazy side, and Cameron could've chosen any song. "Feel Flows" just seems like an odd choice, but I guess it works, I don't know...

I'm not sure how I forgot this. One of my all time favorite episodes of The Simpsons - "Summer of 4 Ft. 2" - their Season 7 finale in which the family takes a vacation to the beach features All Summer Long playing as the episode fades to black and the credits roll. I was 15 at the time, and even though I was pretty familiar with their big hits, that was the first time I ever remembered hearing that song.

Okay, this is a very lame Beach Boys reference, but it caught me off guard. Near the end of The West Wing episode, Inauguration: Part I, one character said to another, "well, I've got my own Beach Boys song going." That's it. I can only surmise that it was a reference to "Help Me, Rhonda" because both characters were going through relationship problems.

At the last count it had reached a staggering 103!!!! thebeachboysforum.forumotion.com/t19-songs-that-mention-the-beach-boys#21

Not sure if this falls into the "pop culture" category, but I bought a book called "Be True to Your School" by Bob Greene last year.
The book is based on one year worth of diary the author took as a teenager in 1964. There are quite a few references to pop music at the time, including the Beatles and the Beach Boys, I believe. I haven't finished it yet, though.

I would think there's not many other artists with a bigger list. Maybe Elvis and The Beatles. Possibly Dylan.

A girl I grew up with was in a really bad movie years ago called Loverboy. I think she's onscreen for five seconds as a nurse. But I rented the video (remember video rental stores?) since she was in it. I think Kirstie Alley was in it, too. I was surprised to hear several BW88 songs in it. I think Melt Away was one of them, maybe Walkin' the Line, one other. I guess I should look it up on youtube. And no, I haven't asked the girl about it...i'm sure she'd rather forget it. She is still acting though, mostly local theater stuff.

Not sure if this belongs here--probably not. But I read elsewhere that Beach Boys Britain has folded. According to Emdeeh, this was Bruce's only online port of call. He doesn't have a Facebook presence--which she praised and, ahem, so do I! Maybe he's on the lookout for a new cyber-home. If you should see this, Bruce, we're here for you!
