I really think this event deserves a thread of its own, however few posts it elicits. I've reposted the programme here for ease of reference:
I'll just start and see where the ship hits the shore, as they say over here...
Looking at the programme, I believe the three acts between the first two breaks ended up in reverse order. Sean, who performed and did the sound for the event, is Sean Macreavy; I can't recall who his musical partner Ric was, except that he was a singer-songwriter. Towards the end of the evening, there was an amazing unannounced version of "Surf's Up" (voice and piano) by one Dan McGeever. Scott quite understandably had trouble with those high notes on his and Nelson's version (I believe he hadn't sung onstage in nine years!) but not Dan -- very very well done.
"Film showing" is very rare early (1974?) footage of Jack Rieley and "Harmony Workshop" is Sean putting us through our various vocal paces on "In My Room". I was Dennis for half an hour -- the most exhausting half-hour of my life! I'm not in view, as it happens:
This is a snippet of Scott and Nelson's (and Tom Wardle's) informal take on "Midnight's Another Day":
During Darian's Zoom call, he announced he was going to show us something special. And he did! Brian made a brief appearance. It was no more than 5-7 seconds, but in it he said he loved all his fans in the UK.
Yes, Nelson and particularly Scott were most affable and willingly signed TLOS for me; Scott even thanked me for buying it! One of our party got their picture taken with the two of them -- very cool! My Dutch colleagues had a stall piled high with goodies (LPs, CDs, 45s, tapes, DVDs, books), some cheap and others rare and expensive. They did quite well. There was one more stall in the opposite corner which did good business too.
The food was good and the beer was excellent. According to keyboard player and EH poster Zander, "The hastily assembled 'Golden Penetrators' [originally Zander & Co] were a bit rough around the edges but it's all about the love of the music isn't it? Just a shame we'd had a few beers to cloud our minds, but we loved it!"
I'm almost back down on Planet Earth but not quite. I'd never experienced anything like this before...
