I'm sure we have a thread for this but I could not find it. And it's also possible/probable that this topic has been exhausted. But since a new fire has been lit under my chilly ass, I just wanted to come here to say that I'm listening to Holland on this crisp autumn day. Today is actually the first day of fall to FEEL like fall, and Holland always felt like a fall album to me. Gosh it's nice to be rekindling this feeling... of actively listening to music, playing records, and basking in the feeling of my favourite season. It's Thanksgiving weekend here and I'll be playing Holland on repeat through to Monday, I expect

Holland always felt like a fall album to me. I agree wholeheartedly. I think maybe only LA (Light Album) is close, with at least Dennis's and Carl's songs feeling awfully autumnal, too. I just listened to Holland earlier this week, though of course it was 80-something and sunny at the time, so it didn't have the same feel... But there is something about the moodiness, the lack of much real "summer" vibe--even "California" feels more like fall than summer to me, maybe because it doesn't feel as fresh or new as that general style would've 8-10 years earlier. The rootsy feeling and instrumentation, too, such as the pedal steel, for some reason remind me of fall. The relative maturity of the guys and the songs. Even the cover art.

Yes, and one of the few existing photos of the group from that time frame shows them dressed very...autumnal.

That's an interesting photo: Dennis smirking at Mike while everyone else looks at the camera ... I'd love to have been there and seen and heard whatever was going on.

The official video to "California Dreamin'" strikes me as being more autumnal than wintry: I've always assumed the saxophonist to be Richie Cannata, but the wiki says otherwise: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_Dreamin%27

The official video to "California Dreamin'" strikes me as being more autumnal than wintry: Despite the word winter lyric, it doesn't look like the kinds of winters we often see here, so I agree with you. And any mention of leaves is automatically more autumnal, too, as (in Minnesota) the leaves are gone by winter. They may be brown, but we can't see them beneath the snow. Walking around outside with no hats, no gloves, jackets unbuttoned with sleeves rolled up (like Al), not wintry either! Granted, you wouldn't recognize a person if it were a Minnesota winter video beneath the bundles of clothes.

I think it's one of Carl's lyrical collaborators. Whoever he is, he's taller than Brian!

I've been working on a Beach Boys' album/comp titled Four Seasons Of The Beach Boys for awhile now. For the winter season, I'm trying to use non-Christmas songs. So far, I have these:
WINTER: - Fall Breaks And Back To Winter
- California Dreamin' - Goin' South - Time To Get Alone - Winter Symphony - Peace On Earth
I'm tempted to put Cuddle Up in there between Time To Get Alone and Winter Symphony.
