I know there's a Surprised to Hear (Song X out in public) in the general music thread, but I couldn't find a BB related one.
But, yesterday, while at the local Total Wine liquor store, I happened to hear On the Island, from NPP over the PA.

This isn't a "hear" but a "see." (There really isn't a thread for this, and it doesn't warrant one, but I got a kick out of it and so I wanted to share.)
On my typical early-morning walk today, I saw a familiar elderly woman walking her dog. She lives in a nearby senior/assisted living facility, and we've seen one another so often on these walks at 5:30, 5:45 a.m., that we have long-since taken up a little smalltalk when we cross paths: weather, gardens, the neighborhood. I realized today that she was wearing a 50th anniversary tour Beach Boys t-shirt! I mentioned loving the band, and she said her daughter had taken her to the concert, that she loved it, and loves their music.
Nice reminder of the broad range of people who form communities or relationships around that great music. And also just the little moment of joy in being reminded. I saw that t-shirt and my heart leapt a little bit. "You, too!?"

Not necessarily surprising, but at the Reds game Friday, the song playing as they opened the gates was It's Ok.

I was listening to local sports talk yesterday afternoon (105.7 FM in Baltimore). They'll usually play music coming out of a commercial break, and they happened to play I Know There's an Answer.

Surprised -- and delighted -- to hear "I Can Hear Music" during breakfast at our hotel last week. Carl's finest hour, in my view, "GOK" and god only knows what else notwithstanding...

Not necessarily surprising, but at the Reds game Friday, the song playing as they opened the gates was It's Ok. That IS surprising, it's a song that most people don't know. I first heard it as the b-side of "It's Gettin' Late" in 1985; always thought that was a puzzling choice for a b-side.
