I would love to hear not only about her childhood and coming to understand who her dad was, but also (more related to her music career) any details about the work they did together on the 1997 album The Wilsons.
As a bit of trivia to better understand related to that album, I'd especially love to hear anything she recalls about "Everything I Need," and the various changes or versions from its first iteration through the eventual Joe Thomas production. For context, drummer Hal Blaine talks about it here. (It's cued up, right around 3:30.) Does Carnie recall Thomas's influence on that track in particular, or just generally?

From all the comments I've read, I guess I'm in the minority. I prefer the released version.

Keep in mind the First Commandment in Beach Boys fandom: Thou Shalt Always Prefer the Demo (or Unreleased Version). (Or at least say you do! ) I'm not sure the demo is necessarily what Blaine is talking about either, though. He might have been participating in an intermediate version, something that was largely replaced by what ended up in the finished version. That said, I don't like the finished version, and yes, it's too Joe Thomassey for me. The best of an imperfect group of options in my opinion is Jeff Foskett's.

I've heard two demos - one is just Brian and Wendy: the other is Brian, Wendy and Carnie.

Caught the show last night. Carnie said two things that stood out:
- "Dad is probably not going to tour anymore."
- "I haven't seen him (Brian) in awhile. And, I really, really miss him. I really miss him. And, um, yeah, you know, he's got a lot going on, a lot going on around him, and I just wish he would....I wanna see him, I wanna see him."

I'll look in on it this evening. I don't watch everything the lads put out there but some shows I feel are required viewing.

I watched it this morning. This was a really fun interview: Carnie seemed less guarded than some guests are when talking about herself and the family/group in general, which I personally find really refreshing. Her mention of Brian probably not touring again somehow both felt like breaking news--nobody else in a position to know has said so, have they?--but simultaneously like old news. That final tour simply wasn't good, and he looked (and sounded) terrible, even for him. He has every right to do whatever he wants, but as an outsider I can't help but say it's time. That said, she said the often-repeated (if rarely believed by fans) apparent fact that he really did love touring once he got into it as a solo artist. It's either the most consistently repeated conspiracy ever from all sides (his family, friends, and band mates), or it's just true. Sheriff John Stone mentioned another heartbreaker, which was her not only saying she hadn't seen him in a while and misses him, but quite frankly stopping herself when she was about to say more. Discretion is the better part of valor, and it's probably best not to air dirty laundry in public, but a person has to wonder what makes it so challenging for her to see her father, assuming she wants to see him. We also learned that, yes, Wilson Phillips was asked to perform at the tribute but could not make it work due to (at least) Chynna's scheduling issues. Some of her choices for some of the songs and albums to mention as favorites at first struck me as a little surprising, but then made perfect sense: 15 Big Ones and Love You, released when she was about 8-9 years old. I can easily imagine how parts of those albums would appeal to kids. The propulsive, singalong fun of "Rock n Roll Music" and "Its OK," or the bizarre, quirky things like "Solar System" (which is one she mentioned). For those two albums both to be among her few named favorites was a nice change from the typical answers. Fun show.

Thanks to you all for watching! She seemed pretty definitive in her statement about Brian not touring anymore. I thought it was sad when she said she can’t see him. But overall she was really funny and she had great stories!
