I'm thinking in particular, of songs that were hits and still get airplay all these years later. For example, I have never been wild about Barbara Ann by the Beach Boys. The oldies station here often plays Set Me Free by the Kinks. I love the Kinks, but that song has always felt to me like an attempt to replicate the success of Tired of Waiting For You. Set Me Free drags, it just feels lifeless. And yet it was a hit. I could live without Dedicated Follower of Fashion - it just feels a little too cute. Everybody's Gonna Be Happy is widely considered their first failure, and it's not top tier Kinks, but I'd take it over the other two. I'm not real fond of Drive My Car by the Beatles. That's probably the only one of their hits I don't care for. I can't stand the sound of Paul's voice on it, or the lyrics. Maybe the idea was to make the girl sound like a real b***. Well, they succeeded! I'm not a big fan of You Know My Name (Look Up the Number), but it's not one I hear often.

Tom Petty - You Don't Know How It Feels - This song was a huge hit for Petty when I was a freshman in HS, and remains one of his most popular songs. I think it's OK, but I really don't think there's a whole lot to it. I wonder if it's been pumped up a bit by the "let's roll another joint" controversy.
Pink Floyd - Money - This is one of the songs that helped get me into Floyd, but I've grown tired of it.
Jimmy Buffett - Why Don't We Get Drunk - I don't consider myself a prude. I just don't think it's that great of a song. It's probably his most popular song that I listen to the least. And, somehow, I've successfully avoided hearing it live at the three shows I've attended.

This is tough, because there are examples with every single band I love. There isn't one band I love without any songs I don't love. (Or even without songs I flat-out dislike.) But limiting it more to hits or well known songs does help narrow it down.
One would be Bob Dylan's "Rainy Day Women #12 & #35." You know, the "everybody must get stoned" song. I think that in general (like KDS said) while I'm no prude by a long shot, there is something lame about songs that either brag about, or "cleverly" hint at getting drunk, stoned, tripping, etc. But more than that, this song just overall doesn't do it for me.
Guns 'n' Roses, "Welcome to the Jungle." This one never really struck a chord with me, though I won't go so far as to say I hate it. But the fact that it became this long-standing sports stadium song always rubbed me the wrong way, as I put it down the list on that great album's songs. Specifically, I don't like the intro, with the digitally delayed lead guitar figure and Axl's howling. I like it much more once it really kicks in.

I'm actually fine with a good old drinkin' song, but Buffett's song "Why don't we get drunk....and screw" seems even over the top for this guy who listens to a lot of David Coverdale lyrics. That, and the song just kind of moves along without really going anywhere.

I guess it's more this for me: if the drinking (or whatever) song feels like--or I've noticed it to be--something teenagers like to sing along to and think they're cool, etc., that usually puts me off. Like, if it's to the taste of a crowd of frat boys, I am put off by it. If it's an old Irish pub or country and western drinking song, it has a better chance.

There's a pretty big difference between Whiskey in the Jar and SHOTS!!
